What's the big deal about someone who likes alternative energy? Why do people care about EV's so much when they have ZERO effect on them? Most people have not even tried them before criticizing them and banishing them the deepest depths of hello.
My GT500 would only get about 170 miles of range on a full tank. I never, in over 20k miles, drove it from full to empty on any day.
I best most people cant recall a day they pulled out of their garage with a full tank and had to fill it up before returning.
EV drivers are car people too. Try one before being so critical.
You just have to learn what works best for that application... if you want long distance get a gas car, hybrid, or plug in hybrid. Really it should be a minimum hybrid nowadays. Unless your talking heavy hauls and truck based activities then really most ice trucks be better suited.
But if it's commuting back and forth to work consistently. Get an EV and have your second car be a gas car. all EVs are a second car in a 2 or 3 car family. if you only take the one long distance road trip vacation each year then just rent an ice car. EVs just aren't there because too many people don't know how to use them or charge them. You don't need to wait until 100% and you don't need to wait for 2 to 3 hours to charge "because it's free". If people just charged at home, they wouldn't really need public charging. Companies need to stop offering free charging. Because it just causes congestion at the chargers. I stopped relying on public chargers, especially level 2... if I truly need to charge ill just stop for 8 to 10 minutes at a DC charger and be on my way. I'm not going to waste any more time when I don't need to.
I know I went on a slight rant. Basically EVs are great if you know their limitations and use them accordingly.
Edit : My bad (tought everybody is in the sane state) some state may have great EV discounts.

Come up with a replaceable battery, then create battery swap; stations and have it be like cell service used to be you sign up with Chevron or 7-11 and you can take your car to any 7-11 swap the battery and pay for the difference between charge left in the old battery and charge level of the new one.
That way no need to charge at home they cane have fast chargers at the 7-11 that can cool the battery packs and charge them using solar or off peak times.
No need to worry about your battery pack no longer holding a charge and if you plan to travel a distance you can sign up for a "roaming plan" so you can get a battery swap done at a 7-11 or a QuikStop!
The people with a lot to lose from the demise of "Gas Stations" will have a new and better revenue stream.
If you don't think people criticize electric vehicles based on the electric nature and instead because its a car, you're delusional.
Why is EV a sudden issue? IDK, good question, the hate I get from car people and assumptions they make are insane.
I go to a car meet with my tesla people judge and literally boo me. Yet the same car group 2 weeks later I show up in a 718 GT4 RS and they ask me to park in the front and talk cars. Only thing that changed was the car I arrived in.
Any yes, the Mustang namesake was a poor choice. So was a the lightning. However, I wouldn't judge someone for driving one or assume they're political views or vehicle knowledge.
EV car batteries are much larger and would need to be designed with smaller modular units that could be swapped. It's a nice idea, but unfortunately we have multiple charging standards and each car manufacturer doing their own thing on batteries. Where I came from in the rural MW, there is almost 0 infrastructure for charging and an EV is simply a burden.

We are currently seeing the tip of the iceberg on upcoming massive price drops across the board, both for EVs and internal combustion cars and trucks. Demand for all has dropped to historic lows because of greedy pricing by manufacturers/dealers combined with high interest rates, tightened lending standards, and upside down trade-ins. Lots are overflowing nationwide, with even some new 2022 models still unsold. When the tipping point is reached in the next 6 months or so, 5 figure discounts off sticker will become the norm as dealers scramble to offload inventory in a buyer's market. Many dealers are facing bankruptcy as we speak unless drastic measures are taken to move cars that are costing them huge amounts in floorplan interest costs. It's time for them to pay the piper for the easy money they made during the pandemic.
Oh and I forgot to mention the underhanded, dishonest tactics and ridiculous add-ons from dealers. All of this combined has made the average car buyer detest the current "dealership experience". I'd love to go buy a new truck, but currently there is no way I'd set foot on a dealership lot with all of the above in mind. They can keep their $80,000 trucks; I'm not interested.
The writing is on the wall, and once it starts it will be a race to the bottom, with the stubborn dealers losing out most. Followed by an influx of affordable cars that the dealers (and manufacturers) have turned their noses up at for the last few years.
