I bit on that deal because my aging 3700x was struggling to keep up with davinci resolve. What an enormous upgrade that turned out to be! Just extended my AM4 system another few years.

That's a pretty huge plus for anyone with a weaker AM4 cpu. I'm about to upgrade my old R5 3600 system to a 5950X and it's going to be basically plug and play (I already has a 240 AIO) and its going to be a huge upgrade for 5yo machine.
I still can't fathom how intel gets away with needing a new motherboard pretty much every upgrade you make.

I'm gonna say no. The 5900X beats the passmark for the 13600kf handily in multi threaded applications (and why wouldn't it, it has 4 more threads and unlike the intel it is an actual 12 core and not a 6 core with 8 garbage cores). Single core performance is slightly better on the 13600kf but largely irrelevant at this level anyways.

Great CPU. I bought this for 330 on Prime Day 2022 and it's still going strong. I primarily use it to game along with my 6900XT on a 1440p ultrawide monitor and it handles like a champ. Also great for video encoding. Watching all 24 boxes go active on task manager is a crazy sight haha

This year, I just upgraded from 8x 3tb drives to 4x 12tb to get rid of the really, really old drives. Will plan on an upgrade to 128gb ECC next year so I can rum more VM and perhaps 5950x the year after to max out and squeeze more life out of my system.

5900x is easily cooled with a 2 fan AIO (deepcool captain pro 240 v2) AMD cores boost quickly so you're going to see it jump up to high 70s under load and just sit there. but its tjmax is 95 I believe. I run mine in a very hot (ambient temp room, it's like 80 degrees F when the computer is on for a while, I have AC set in the house to 78)

Jumped on it, it's replacing a Ryzen 7 2700 purchased Nov of 2019 for $140 during a BF deal to clear out inventory and make way for the 3xxx series released 4 months earlier.

Gotta luv the AM4 platform. It has allowed people to wait for the previous generation to drop in price for big savings. That said, I'm not sure it was the wisest decision as the leap from 2xxx to 3xxx was huge, probably the biggest 1 step improvement in the entire AM4 reign.

Having one die is what made the 5800s so hot.
The 5900x runs very cool if the paste is done right.
Apply to the whole cpu surface and dont do the X or rice grain applications.

Every generation of Ryzen got better up through the 5000s so I'll run my 5900x for 5-7 years.

Nah, just the name kf makes me sick. I'd go with 13700k minimum if I build an Intel pc

I had to do a BIOS upgrade before so I recommend you check with your board manufacturer. And you will need a good fan if you don't already have one (like a peerless assassin). Otherwise, it was just a drop in upgrade for me.

As mentioned you will be happier with minimum 240 AIO, I upgraded to this and my noctua tower wasn't keeping up. It wasn't their largest model, but I got an arctic 240 and it's been great.
