I'll never get why people have such an irrational hate towards this store. So silly.
Let's see:

1) they treat their employees like crap and underpaid. Employees are just a number

2) they buy trade ins at pennies and then sell them at near MSRP without ever lowering their price.

3) they sell opened games as new when they aren't sealed.

4) they play hot potato with their policies. Pro use to be $15 now, it's $25. They've changed and removed the ability to purchase game cards with the $5 monthly certificate about 4 times in the last 2 years. To use your points or cancel pro membership, you have to jump through hoops.
5) they refuse to adapt: their stores, site, and computers are outdated, they refuse to change to a sealed only copy as new (and sell open copies at a reduced price as open box), they never lower their used game prices to remain competitive with the competition, they refuse to buy/sell older console platforms, they're "PC section" is laughable and overpriced likeir console sections.

I could go on and on

When Gamestop goes, so does physical media. At least we can all look forward to an all-digital paradise in the next few years. Gaming is so much better without all the discs. No ball and chain. Freedom baby!
If you are happy with not actually owning the game you paid then you do you.

imagine being happy about owning the rights to access a digital piece of media instead of actually owning a physical copy that can't be taken away

You obviously missed the Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked (GCU) days where they let you print up as many copies of their monthly discount coupons as you wanted and those stacked with sales prices. Getting multiple copies of various games for free and trading them in to Gamestop and even back to Best Buy along with other places (Blockbuster and Hollywood Video still existed then) was insane.

Between Fairytale Fights, some Nerf game bundle (the Nerf rifle even traded
into Gamestop) and Sudoku Ball Detective for DS I racked up a ton of free credit.
Free money. Strange that both companies are slowly going out of business...

They sell opened consoles as new as well. Or at least consoles that have their seals broken.

You don't need a case, but your trade value will be reduced accordingly.
They are not supposed to reduce credit if there is no case. If they are doing this to you, ask them why. They can only do so if the game itself is damaged.

If they insist, take your trades elsewhere or call and report it so it doesn't happen again.

I dunno they're giving around 13 dollars for the 30-40 range retail price switch games. Frankly it doesn't inspire me to trade in. 7.80 or so is the normal trade in. that normal trade in price is not even 1/3rd of normal retail and it is 1/3 of what they sell for used. It's horrible

Don't like the Trade in prices? Then don't go lol. Literally that simple.

I loved getting almost $400 for my launch day PS5 and using it to get a PS5 slim.

I hate the shift towards digital, so I appreciate being able to still buy physical games and get decent trade in values for some games.

Like I said, the irrational hate is silly. Acting like you are being forced to trade your games here at a loss. Don't like the TIV, then sell elsewhere. I appreciate being able to not have meet weirdos on Facebook and risk getting gunned down selling my console. The smart way is to wait till they have tradein promos to maximize the credit you get and also be sure to be a Pro member.

So weird, how people want this business to fail. Makes me laugh how they probably seethe that they got a a billion in cash and a huge renewed base of customer support, they are not going anywhere anytime soon.

traded in FF16 and Pokemon violet for $65 credit, paid $10 on top for FF7 rebirth. not bad at all considering i spent a total of $75 originally for FF16 and pokemon
Did they also give you slightly more credit for trading these towards FF7 Rebirth? Website says you get an extra 20% when trading toward this game. Doesn't specify if this 50% perk replace the 20% or stacks.

I've never had a game's trade in value reduced for not having the case. If a disc or cartridge is damaged, they will reject it outright, but if they accept it you get the full value.

These promos never stack. You always get the promo with more value.

1) You described 90% of retail or service industry jobs in the country.
2) You can always sell it yourself locally if you want for top dollar. They have overhead and offer a guaranteed (published) trade in rate during business hours at any of their stores.
3) I agree with you here; they shouldn't do this. To prevent retail theft, they pull games from cases out on display, but I think they should just get more dummy cases instead from their distributors.
4) Their deals have changed but I feel like their promos have been better.
5) They are the last of their breed, the only survivor so to speak. Once they go, the only brick-and-mortar option left for gamers are big box stores which are even worse.
