No this is a full sized pcie add-in card for a desktop (not laptops). This is intended for people who need more storage on desktop who ran out (or do not have) m.2 sockets.

For laptops You need m.2 nvme SSDs.

The difference is m.2 drives look like small sticks of gum, this is a full sized add-in card.

Pcie protocol exist on both desktop and laptops (so it's commonly confused), but the socket sizes are different. As a side note most modern desktop motherboards typically have multiple full size pcie e sockets and a few m.2 sockets, so you can add many SSD drives and pcie add in cards (that can do whatever you want)

I should also note, you can't open this up and pull out an m.2 socket drive from the case. This is full size pcie socket format only and it's part of the pcie board itself.

As long as a you have an available PCI-e slot, you should be golden.

Based on the review below, it runs in RAID with 2 * NVME cards. Technically, you could remove the cards and install them in your laptop, but in that case, i would rather just buy 1TB or 2TB nvme cards.

A kinda weird product for someone that wants a high-end SSD thats faster than a SATA SSD but doesn't have any available M.2 slots on their board and is not willing to just buy a new motherboard?

I guess if you buy a few of them they can look cool RGB-ing out your PCIE slots?

Is there something like this without the SSDs that doesn't require pcie bifurcation? I have some nvmes laying around and would be nice to expand internal storage.

If anyone cares TBW is 1200 per internal SSD.

Don't dumb this down; it's complicated. Consumes 8 PCIe lanes, in conflict with an installed GPU.

@amax Yeah that's what I heard I have an Asus x570 plus and the pcie lane is x4 for the second slot so I wonder if there's a drastic performance difference

That might look cool, but considering each one of these wants 8 PCIe lanes to run at full speed it would generally be impactable outside of workstation or server builds if one wanted it actually work at full speed.

Sadly, with rare exceptions, the cardinal rule is that if you've run out of M.2 slots, you've really run out. This is my #1 wish list item for motherboard development. It's embarrassing how the fastest SSDs for many years have been bottlenecked by motherboards demanding tiny little screws and surface installations, compared to SATA history of dockable media and cables.

thats why you expand into server style motherboards or threadripper desktops -- intel has been slacking in the pci lanes for a while now -- unless its on their server platforms. Frown
