Kidde has had a disturbing number of product recalls over the last decade+, including with fire extinguishers that fail to discharge properly. AFAIK this model's not included, but their history and current Chapter 11 bankruptcy make them less reliable than First Alert. Something to be aware of, even at this fire sale price. Yes, yes, bad pun.

It's a pressurized container of baking soda, you should be good. That being said with this being designed for auto/marine use I wish it came with a metal bracket. Although it's a more extreme use case plastic brackets generally don't pass tech inspection for auto racing required extinguishers because they just don't hold well enough. There are various metal brackets available though.

This holds them tightly if you are looking for an alternate bracket

I would think plastic bracket is better in an emergency since you can just rip it off in an emergency. With metal, wouldn't you waste precious time trying to break it free from the metal bracket? I too live in Arizona where the car gets up to 150 degrees easily in the summer.

is this good for grease fires or is the red multi-purpose ones good enough for the kitchen? Might get one to keep next to the red ones to have all bases covered?

In for one, I already keep an auto fire extinguisher in my car. Never know when it becomes handy for you or another motorist.

No. If you're gonna keep it in the garage, you should absolutely get a larger ABC rated one. The lack of A rating on this makes it useless for most typical household fires, and the size makes it even less likely you're going to actually fully extinguish a fire with this thing. I got a pair of 3A 40BC for the house from Costco for $30 each last fall, they go on sale all the time.

These small ones are better than nothing to keep in your car without taking up much space, but I wouldn't expect them to actually save your car from completely going up in flames if a fire starts in the engine compartment.

Exactly my point. It's only about $10 more for a First Alert. Surely your boat/car/etc is worth that.

They were trying to cheap out and run plastic nozzles for a while there, they had a caking issue or something along those lines. I swapped out two for that recall and the process was pretty straight forward so no complaints beyond going cheap on safety stuff with plastic. https://www.kidde.com/home-safety...inguisher/
