Although much slower then a M1, these make great low power plex servers. The igpu's quicksync is plenty capable at transcoding for 3+ users. You could then free up your Mac mini for something else.

You can get a Beelink every day at this price, why bother with some no name brand https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-Pr...0C89TQ1YF/

Another set of these miniPC to consider would be 5560U, which is about $60 more than N100 on amazon.

Have the Beelink S12Minis Pro with same specs that I got for about $159 from Amazon a few months ago. I use it as a hobby multi boot box (W11, Arch, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, OpenBSD and Haiku OS). Runs surprisingly well and I am quite pleased with the overall value for money.

holy crap, really? Transcoding 4k down to 1080p or some such? or you mean smaller jobs?

I'd buy this in a heartbeat at that price if it can play 4k files to my friends who don't have devices that'll play natively at their lower res.

Recently there were deals on Dell sff desktops. These are by far the better deal. Better CPU, more RAM could be installed, and most importantly power supply built in, not external. So you deal with one box instead of two

It is regular price for the mini PC with this configuration. If you search beelink in Amazon, it has been sale for 160 since 6months ago.

You must have a Plexpass subscription to use the Quicksync hardware for transcoding. Otherwise, the software transcoding works way too slowly on the N100 and it will stutter like crazy.

I got a lifetime plex pass a few years ago, so I'm set there. Thanks, that's great to know.

I wonder if this will play minecraft well? My kids are getting in minecraft coding to make their own mods and it really needs a PC for me to help them (ipad is too difficult).

I run my plex server on an n100 running ubuntu and it handles multiple directplay streams fine, but it can start to choke if you have multiple simultaneous 4k to 1080p transcodes. If you run plex natively or in a container, it can access the quicksync features of the CPU which helps with transcodes but there's still a bit of overhead (if you run in a VM it cannot access quicksync).
Are there any guides on how to setup Plex on Ubuntu?

Dang - if this had 2 NIC's like the AceMagic T8 Plus I have I would bite. Right now thinking about installing OPNsense on the T8 Plus and then turning my ZimaBoard into a router with a PCIe to wifi6 adapter and openWRT. Running prox mox on an off brand mini pc with Intel N95 - upgraded to 24GB of RAM. I run plex in its own lxc along with qbitorrent, sonarr, autobrr in another. i have an ubuntu server vm running 24/7 and just installed the full fledged home assistant OS. havent had many issues performance wise.

it is nice to have one of these Win11 mini pc's on hand for random things that could come up. JUST MAKE SURE YOU FORMAT AND REINSTALL WINDOWS 11 FIRST! ACEMAGIC HAS BEEN KNOWN TO SHIP DEVICES WITH MALWARE RUNNING ON THEM!!!!

In terms of a Plex server, and I know this is an ignorant question, but whats the difference between the Beelink model you linked and something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...VS6B0&th=1
Power consumption.

You can transport one person on a motorcycle or a car or a bus. The motorcycle is going to be the most fuel efficient.

N100 is all you need for Plex performance wise. It is not going to consume a lot of power when sitting idle.

You guys heard about AcePC and preinstalled spyware and malware that can potentially key log what you do on the computer, right? At the very least, format it and install Windows from scratch or Ubuntu.

can you explain? why wouldn't the ACEPC PicoBox Mini Ultra with 2 RJ45s work well?
is it a single NIC? if so why is that bad for OPNsense?
