It's worth noting that PC users will receive a GOG.com key for the game. Fallout 76 is currently not available via GOG.com, which seems to indicate that a DRM-free version of the game will soon be available from that storefront.

Fallout 76 (on PC) requires no monthly payment to play. There is stuff you can buy with real money but it isn't pay to win.

I didn't play Fallout 76 until about 4 months ago so I can't comment of how it was, just now it is. Very Fallout 4-ish.. Currently about 50 hours in. Fun but now there is so much content that I kinda stopped playing. I'm not a 100 percenter but I also like to play the main campaign all the way through. Just so much there now the light at the end of the tunnel is too far off for me. Probably won't play much more.

You need to have Xbox live gold sub to play fallout 76, don't you?

Edit:. Paid subscription is required since it's an online multiplayer game..

Does Fallout 76 require a monthly subscription or can you play all the way through without any purchases required? I've always been confused about this game but curious. This is one of those games that apparently improved over time significantly vs day 1 release.

No monthly fee to play online. You can pay $13/month for a "battle pass" thing (Fallout First). Just a few perks for doing that.

There is something called the Atom Shop where you pay real money for Atoms in turn you use to buy cosmetic things. You can also earn Atoms in game by doing certain things.

FO76 has significantly improved since launch and I've been playing since launch. You have a quest line to follow and there is no real end game other than to make a certain character build and find weapons/armor that maximizes that build.

Therev are plenty of videos and online forums to look over to see how the game is. It's going to be free and I'd recommend it. They are also still updating the game and changing out content every few months.

I think Amazon Prime gave Fallout 76 before for Microsoft accounts since I already have it.
Wish they gave it on other platforms...

No need to subscribe, but you'll be spending a lot of time managing your stash and inventory if you don't. You get unlimited stash for crafting components and ammo with the monthly subscription which improves QoL significantly. It also gives you an ability drop a portable base anywhere in the world which saves a lot of time, you also get access to personal private servers, and access to private customizable servers. So no need for a sub, but you'll wish you had it. It's still moderately enjoyable without subbing.
