FYI just because it says "New" doesn't mean it qualifies for the 7500 tax credit. Demo models are new but do not qualify for 7500. If the specific inventory item qualifies it will directly say it on the site.

The weight, the fact they tell you 100% charge is fine, and slower 0-60 all tell you it's an LFP battery that isn't software locked.
What would be the point in software locking a pack they only use in standard range vehicles?
Are you maybe confusing the current vehicle with the AWD 4680 one they were selling for a while but haven't sold recently?
You can get the credit via leasing, but can't buy it at the end.
The slower 0-60 is because it's a single motor. It does not recommend you charge to 100% (US made model Y, standard range).
The 2023 SR model Y qualified for the federal tax credit while the SR model 3 did not because the SR model Y isn't LFP (mineral sourcing requirements did not allow LFP vehicles to qualify)
Also with proper preconditioning, I've pulled over 200kW on a supercharger. LFP batteries would have topped off well under that at around 175kW
Software locking was done because it's cheaper than retooling a manufacturing line to fit a different battery in the same car. When I picked up my SR model Y, the service advisors also mentioned every model y comes badges as AWD and they need to manually remove the badge for SR trims. They also remove the parcel shelf for standard range model Y

If you are considering buying one later this year, they had been offering $1k discount to those who pre-ordered a Cybertruck in '23 (promo expired 3/31). I'm thinking of pre-ordering one now just in case they offer the promo again - only thing is you have to put down a refundable $250 deposit.
What are you guys talking about that it was cheaper last month? I am seeing in my area a long range with seven seats for only $45,000. I bought a couple of months ago for $3000 more and paste of weeks of watching, that was a great price at the time.
Yeah the MY Performance I was looking at last week was around 39,700. Now it's 40, 600. Still pretty good but not the price cut they're hyping it to be.

same as back towards end of last year. Tesla raised the price for the Y and then did these inventory discount. not much has changed.
I still feel bad for those who bough in 22. Model y Performance were $70K+ and people bought it without hesitation and a smile thinking cars would continue to appreciate. Overnight people learned they got bent over and used for $20-30K
Anyone who has sat in one, or driven one, should be able to tell that they're in a $35k vehicle and not a $70k vehicle to be fair.

The standard range model y's rated 260 mile range is a result of a software locked battery. In other words, the 260 miles is close to the recommended 80% charge already
correct me if i'm wrong but what your saying is the RWD 260 model y is safe to charge to 100%?

Yes. And I do charge my US-made SR model Y to 100% almost every time
And in general for EVs, the hit on battery longevity is typically from allowing the battery to remain at a high state of charge for a prolonged time or depleting it to empty. If you're charging a battery to a true full state but immediately driving it a good distance (think road trips), the degradation really is minimal

The 260-mile range seems too short for people like me who travel 120 miles daily commute. If the weather is a factor, then realistically it's an even shorter range than that.
Yeah, that's a super long commute. Unless you have a way to charge at your work, may not be worth it. If you do have a way to charge, it would save you a ton in gas money

My son (16 year old) recently got license. Is it possible to buy car under his name (to quality for tax credit). I guess if I am the co-owner, we cannot get tax credit, is that right?
The new rule in 2024 is that the 7500 tax credit is applied at point of service. unlike in previous years, now you can get the 7500 discount on the car at time of sale and if you don't have tax liability, you still don't actually have to pay back the 7500. So yes, if you're 16-year-old is able to file taxes, regardless of income (even $0 income), he will be able to get the credit from Tesla when buying under his name.
There's a pattern with Tesla threads here. I don't care if you all wanna discuss the deal or the cars but it always turns into paaaages and paaaages of bickering back and forth and nobody ,except for the few involved, enjoy that or wanna wade through that. No one wants to read a blood red on grey background scree either.
I can feel the migraine coming on.

that's a concise video pointing to multiple details that correlate with the standard range model y having a software locked battery.
