The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

I don't care if you all wanna discuss the deal or the cars but it always turns into paaaages and paaaages of bickering back and forth and nobody ,except for the few involved, enjoy that or wanna wade through that. FYI just because it says "New" doesn't mean it qualifies for the 7500 tax credit. Demo models are new but do not qualify for 7500. If the specific inventory item qualifies it will directly say it on the site.

so in california, owning an EV cost 7 cent a mile. owning toyota hybrid cost 4 cent a mile. which one is more of a slick deal?
It's disappointing that some people paid $10-20k more for these cars. While they may be worth it, Tesla should at least compensate these buyers in some way.
Disagree, if the cars went up in price would you say that the people who bought them at a lower price should cut Tesla a check? What you're saying doesn't make any sense.
I'm sorry. I won't buy Tesla based on privacy concerns. You shouldn't have to open an account to drive a car just so they can track and sell your data. Seriously, how did we get to this point?

If you are in Bay Area, yes. Nor cal also includes Sacto, Elk Grove, etc., in those area, electric is 13-16 cents per kw
Every friend of mine that owns a Tesla absolutely loves it & they rave about how great it is all the time Like it or not EV's are the future & you'd think everyone would love saving tons of money on gas with top notch tech, but we live amongst absolute morons embarrassing America daily!
I commute 20 miles a day plus 800 miles a month for trips. Picked up a very comfy Toyota used for 8K that needed some work. 4K and a week later I had a very well running car. Insurance is 100/mo. Registration is 200/yr. It has really well thought out buttons so I don't have to mess with a touchscreen. Spare parts are a breeze if need be. I get an oil change twice a year which is done in 5 minutes while I sit in my car for $50.
I *could* drop 40-50K out the door for a Tesla, which would mean 800/yr registration, 200+/mo insurance, having to deal with a charger at home, or even worse out in public for 4x the time and hassle. The interest and return on my savings pays for my gas. However, I could go really really fast in this Tesla but that's the last thing I ever want to do because it's dangerous and I value safety for all things around me. I'd also rather reduce and reuse by buying used which is good for the environment.
So who are these absolute morons embarrassing America daily?

Because you and I have to support all the people who peed their money away on lavish vacations, gambling, drugs, alcohol, cars, not showing up to work, etc., etc., etc. all while we were working our butts off.
My ex-company layed people off, gave their existing employees their work load, cut their hours to 34 a week, then told them they were lucky to have a job. They ended profit sharing.
But hey they made record profits which made the stock holders happy. Now they say "no one wants to work" but the left out the "for them".
Wild how something that may have 2500 miles on it is filtered as "new"
"new" car is one that hasn't been registered... that's how the law describes it.
Usually when they have that much, they were used as a "demo" car or for an event.

Yep, you also would have had some free supercharger usage thrown in as well, which probably saved another +$500. Am waiting til end of q2 in June myself as I think prices will continue to go down (or incentives pop up).
100% Good chance Model Y inventory prices will go down by another 3 to 4000. Those who are not in rush can wait until Q2 or Q3.
