There's a pattern with Tesla threads here. I don't care if you all wanna discuss the deal or the cars but it always turns into paaaages and paaaages of bickering back and forth and nobody ,except for the few involved, enjoy that or wanna wade through that. So cut that stuff out, please and thank you.
FYI just because it says "New" doesn't mean it qualifies for the 7500 tax credit. Demo models are new but do not qualify for 7500. If the specific inventory item qualifies it will directly say it on the site.

Here's one data point. I live in the bay area in CA. Family has 3 EVs, one of which is a model Y. $2500 for 6 months with Progressive.
I did try Tesla insurance for 6 months, which they gave me the honey moon rate of around $100 per month. I left that when they wanted 2.5x that for renewal, after logging and analyzing your driving the first 6 months.
Gasoline in ICE engines degrades in about 3-6 months. Keep an ICE parked unused this long, good chance it won't start at all. If you forget to turn sentry mode off on a long absence, it will automatically turn off at 20%, saving further discharge. If you're not a green plant, CO2 is toxic. Breathing CO2 can result in sickness or death. The majority of cars sold in the US presently are trucks and SUVs that weigh as much or more than an EV. They also pollute more and have poor gas mileage. Yet no one seems to complain about their weight or pollution. Driving habits and high torque/quick acceleration are the most important factors in tire wear.
ok, empty the gas tank, engine still brand new.
CO2 emissions have been around a long time. I'm living longer already than my Grandfather.
Tire wear is also worse just due to weight. And tell the EV buyers who buy with 0-60 in 3 seconds to take it slow.
Tesla drivers crash more often than any other car driver.
Don't think I'm against EVs as I want one, will buy a used M3 when I can get one for $20k cash with less than 50k miles, but they are disposable cars at this point until battery replacement is equal ti ICE.
It degrades every single day even if not used. think about it. We need better battery tech than that. My ICE engine does NOT degrade each day unless it's used.
so what we save on gas, we end up paying to insurance LOL
Like, it depends. I think one thing that clouds matters is you're paying 37.5K, but in the insurance company's eyes it's 45K to replace because of the tax rebate. The insurance is high primarily because it's 45K, not that it's an EV. So obviously your insurance is going to go up vs. whatever pre-pandemic pricing vehicle you're replacing. My concern is that someday the insurance companies are going to notice the 0-60 times and start pricing EVs as sports cars instead of sedans/SUVs.

I hope Tesla insurance rolls out nation wide, I'm a safe driver and I heard they analyze your driving to base your rate on that.

Mine is $600/6mo through progressive with deductibles which are lower than standard by request , comparable for any other vehicle in the price range. Tesla insurance was similar but I own multiple vehicles and wanted to maintain as a single policy. It's entirely dependent on each person's situation, give your company a call and inquire for yours.
I went from approximately $1800 for two cars annually to approximately $2800 in CA using the gecko company. I got MYLR in March with 10k free supercharging with my trade in. My 13 Sienna was getting 18.5 mpg. Wanted a hybrid Toyota or Honda but those were just as pricey with dealerships adding useless add-ons and markups. Thanks to these dealers, I decided to get Tesla.
For what it is worth, I believe CA is one of the most expensive states to insure a car in
Full-coverage car insurance for 2022 Tesla vehicles costs an average of $3,007 per year or $251 each month. This makes Tesla auto insurance premiums approximately 50% pricier than for the average vehicle with a full-coverage policy.

This is very misleading. The quote is from Tesla Insurance Company. Other insurance companies like State Farm and Geico are much cheaper! No one is obligated to buy car insurance from Tesla.

11am - 8pm is 24 cents which still way lower than PG&E.
On average that's the case [marketwatch.com], but you really should shop it.
