Decent performance for the price for this 16" Klipsch Subwoofer. The 14" is also on sale at Adorama for $699.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Some guy that was trying to sell me speakers said "One is none and two is one" when it comes to subs so I guess I'm in for two.
That is a good price on a 16" sub but it's still a lot of money for the average person. The 14" is very powerful and is only $699. The pictures don't do it justice. Look at the dimensions and the weight of the item. The 14" is huge. I wrote an earlier post about how it cracked my wall, but in a good way (meaning it's powerful and shakes the floor and walls)

go look in that database of measurements for subwoofer output.

rp1600 is on line 985
FV15hp is on lines 1755-1758

Look at column CC for the cubic measurement size.(fv15hp is 6.3 vs the klipsch at 8.7 which is 72% of the same volume.)

I'm agreeing with you that the klipsch's performance is good. I've never debated that. I additionally feel that you know what you're talking about and that if we were doing this IRL, we'd probably amp each other up on our excitement/enthusiasm when it comes to the audio space.

My whole original comment was that if you want to go smaller, you generally have to pay for it. The price for this and the rp1200 on sale are amazing for the performance but they're really large subs though. I don't think you can disagree with how large this, monolith, new def tech, etc. are. You already said you'd choose the size difference to save the money which is absolutely understandable/reasonable.

Seriously though, I feel like we're disputing over semantics and honestly probably have the same opinion in performance and value about the subwoofers. I've tried/owned/help install a lot of subs at this caliber (e.g., both the klipsch rp, rythmik f12/l12/g25hp/fv18/fv15hp, almost all of the svs line - even the micro3000, etc.).

At the end of the day, there's a lot of what goes into the consideration of purchasing a subwoofer and how it gets utilized. There's so little subwoofer reviews and I get why there are as well (e.g., accurately measuring it in the same exact environment as before) so there are a few things that I more strongly consider, one of them having good placement in your room. With that said, when something has a large size, it makes it even more difficult to place them in your room and to maximize your performance out of your sub. I would love to be able to use JTR captivators but my wife has a super hard no on it. I had picked up a couple FV18s in the past because I got a stupid stupid good deal on it ($2200 for both) and my wife straight up said no cause they were extremely aesthetically unpleasing to her after getting them and my friends are now benefitting from that deal from me.

We can further extend this conversation into output and real world usage (e.g., 100db output is sick but how often are you really trying to achieve this volume and how much do you value that extra headroom, etc.) and it all comes down to everyone's own use case. From your responses, you're someone who I think I could probably have a valuable discussion on installation/calibration/room treatment/measuring in REW/etc. vs. a lot of ppl who would just do the standard calibration, feel their nuts rumble, and think it's good enough.

I guess what I'm saying is, I appreciate and understand where you're coming from and feel we largely agree.

Why do wives generally hate quality speakers and subs? If not for them, Sonos wouldn't be so popular Lol

My wife let's me go pretty far into all my hobbies but she has a limit. I don't currently have a dedicated listening space and have to do as much as I can in the living room so it still has to be somewhat ok aesthetically. I have to agree with her that things like a jtr captivator isn't pretty.

I got the rp1400 from the recent deal only because I had never seen the rp1600 go on sale. I totally do not need another sub but I'm having major regret with getting the "smaller" sub. It hasn't been 30 days since I got the sub and I have all the original packaging material. Has anyone returned a sub to Adorama? Looks like I would have to pay for return shipping which is probably a lot for the rp1400 box…

Don't buy from Adorama. I had to destroy the packaging to get the subwoofer out, only to find it had clearly been dropped and damaged. The cabinet was dented and scratched and there is a rattle when the subwoofer gets to 3 loudness. Adorama would not process a return of exchange since the packaging was damaged and only issued me a $100 credit.

Buy through Amazon.

That was the shippers fault not the retailer.. I have received several things from them no issues and I always thank the fed ex with cookies or candy bars waiting for him dropping off huge items like

What is the regret with the smaller one? Needing another instead of just that one bigger one? The sound didn't give you butterflies, that shortness of happiness breath?

It doesn't sound a lot different than my r-115sw which I like. Very similar dimensions too. Of course no guarantee that the rp1600 will sound much better..

Well long story short...It doesnt work.So pissed right now..Its not like i can just pack it up and return it..Not sure if i should get ahold of adorama or klipsch?
It powers on and works ever so slightly...No bass and it barely moves...

I just got mine and box was literally torn to shreds (1 out of 2 boxes), and gain knob was broken and back-panel badly scratched. They have offered me a lousy credit in lieu of shipping, which I refuse to accept...I paid for a new speaker, and that's what Adorama should deliver. As far as the shipper's fault, the UPS guy that delivered this said that things this bulky and over 100lbs should be going through LTL and pallet delivery, not through usual UPS delivery guy...I agree with @zankytanky that this is shipper's fault for choosing regular shipping and not pallet delivery.

You don't like the type of sound it gives VS the r-115sw? Any better, lower, cleaner bass between the two? If that's the case then I might skip the 1400 and maybe get the r-115sw once it becomes available... Did your 115sw ever give you issues?

Bass does seem a little lower and cleaner as compared to r115sw but not massively so. I am grateful to have never had any issues with my r115sw and think it's a great bang for the buck!

I just got one and love it. I was planning on getting a second, but saw a pair of SVS SB-1000's locally for $750 (like new) - would those up front and one of these back be a better setup than 2 of these?
