Careful...this is a gateway drug. If you're like me, you end up blowing four figures on the ember shield, Surround table, the cover for the Surround, the roasting sticks, the fire poker and grabber tools, 4 Adirondack chairs, 2 cubic yards of gravel, 100 or so brick pavers, 200' of outdoor hanging lights, and a partridge in a pear tree.
Stop being honest...we are all used to your lies now! Lol
I have this pit and my biggest issue is it doesn't have a large heat radius. By making it smokeless, I believe it redirects a lot of heat vertically instead of horizontal. Which is fine for most people but when I make a fire it's usually for warmth so we can stay outside.

Agreed, this is definitely a fire pit for aesthetics, not warmth. We have the OG Bonfire, and we do enjoy it. Plenty of newspaper and dry wood lights trouble-free, and once it's going it burns well with almost no management--if the log fits, it burns, just keep dropping them in. But the traits you describe make it a marginal three-season pit here in the Midwest--on cool spring or fall nights it just doesn't project the heat to keep you very warm unless you stand around it. Sit in a lawn chair in shorts next to it and your legs will be cold. That being said, it is pretty nice for casual, no-fuss-no-muss fires that don't leave you smelling like smoke.
Heat deflector obstructs visibility. And also makes it difficult to put logs in. Wood needs to be processed to fit between deflector and stove. There isn't a good way to remove the deflector and put back on after poking the fire. They should've added an arch handle on the deflector so it can be lifted off and on.
My DIY version using a 30" replacement top for a patio heater, with a handle, and 3 longer legs to raise it high enough for 6" logs even without removing it
This thing is an invitation to neighbors to come and sit by the fire. Purchase at your own risk!
That's what I was thinking. It might be a wiser gift to your neighbor. That way, you can expect to be invited over and you can go home for seclusion when you're ready to say good night.
Yeah, nowadays, I have to make that assumption. The only SD comments I trust are the negative ones.
Then I feel sorry for you that you think that.
And to be fair, I don't even own the above product, but have friends who have it and it's great. I just don't have a need (or a place) for it.
The order arrived today, but I found it is actually the 1.0 version without the removable ash pan. Is it the same for everyone else?
Yep, same situation for me. I guess I misunderstood. I kept the base ring and resold the rest for full price on Marketplace in an hour, then ordered the 2.0 pit only deal at target ($175).
Glad I live on 35 acres and have no neighbors. We do the untrendy thing and put large stones in a circle on the ground and have fires that way with wood I chainsawed and chopped from our forest.

Sent using smoke signals from the middle of nowhere.

Cool story, John Dutton.
