The soldered ram is a deal breaker for many.. in addition to being unable to upgrade, if any of the chips go bad you have to send it in for repair, or just deal with less memory. I regularly use 10-20GB of ram, currently sitting at 14GB in use. I'm not sure who made the decision to include soldered ram and only 16GB but they should be fired.

Edit: Unhelpful? I at least gave you more information about this laptop, and an opinion from a power user. Downvotes for an opinion are funny, I understand my use is different from the regular internet browsing most people may do, but if you also use VPN connections for remote desktops to perform work and run a well known browser with dozens of tabs you will be in the same boat, it just isn't future proof. I would suggest waiting a little longer for a laptop with similar specs that isn't soldered, these lower power high performance chips are just getting here. Otherwise these specs are awesome, good performance with a 120hz oled (vrr?) in a thin lightweight profile.

That's a deal breaker for me too. I would probably be fine for my use at 16GB, but I like the ability to upgrade if needed.

This looks like a great laptop for the specs. Been looking for similar laptops for my daily driver. But I've never used acer before.
Any reviews of Acer swift edge line? How about build quality?
Also, how does it compare against a zenbook like this (if you overlook the CPU)

I don't think LPDDR5 ram comes in sticks, they are just lose chips. Also technically you can upgrade the ram by de-soldering the old ram chips and solder in new ones. Some people did that on the Steam Deck.

It doesn't, but DDR5 does. It was likely used in order to save space, but I'd much prefer a different DIMM design over losing the ability to upgrade or replace it when necessary. It may just take some time for a new standard to arrive.

Fyi most thin and light laptops like this will always have soldered ram.

I've had it since December. A little flimsy, but it seems to be holding up okay.

I've heard that the fan noise on this one can be loud and annoying (frequent spinning up and down). How's your experience been?

Would like to buy, regardless of the soldered ram etc.. but too many people claim the heat system is almost non existent and fans are trying to compensate. Not happy to pass on this, but will.

Oh, gross. Soldered RAM is a non-starter for me

Don't mind them; just do what you have to do. That happened to me the other day. They don't want to hear any opinions. They are all tech experts; they will make you feel like an idiot if you say anything negative about the deals here. They will come for this comment too; you'll see.

Fan noise is loud and noticeable when you are using it plugged in.It also gets hot plugged in and when in use. It's quite and cool on battery. It might just be my settings though.
