When the last year's model released, the discounted price started from $599-649 not $549 as this one.
Compared to the last year's model this is more compact and portable with a 14" footprint vs the 14.5" in the former, and similar to the 2022 one. This makes it significantly lighter than both as well.
However, the display has been downgraded from 2.8K 120Hz and 90Hz (2022) to FHD+ (1200p) 60Hz. The battery size has been increased from 70 Whr to 75 Whr.
What all this translates to is significantly more battery time due to reduced resolution and refresh rate, increased battery size, and also better thermals.
On a 14", FHD+ OLED is sharp and good enough and anything above, while good to have, would be more or less, an overkill.
The soldered 8GB RAM would again be a point for many to cry on, and while it would be justifiably a deal breaker for them, for the majority light/home users for productivity and media consumption, this would be perfectly enough.

Not to mention Qualcomm Elite debut in few months. PC deals will be on fire this year folks. Like never before, it's a buyers market.
You will see 16gb sales darn close to this, maybe not as elegant packaged as this laptop. Id argue, if 8gb ram is enough for you, just get a monitor for you mobile device or entry level iPad or tablet.
