Avoid that week if you don't want to end up seeing things closed during your travel.
SFO is not in San Francisco.

Can anyone comment how flying zipair with a 1 year old baby is? Does this route come equipped with a bassinet? Thanks in advance.

It's a low cost air carrier. Everything, including water, cost money. Bringing a carry on bag with milk / diaper ... will cost money. Perhaps you can save more using traditional carriers.

If you travel with a child, you do not need to pay to choose your seats. Don't pay the extra to choose.

Usually you have to pay for reserving a seat when finalizing your booking. It is not an option. But when you are travelling with a child under 6 years old (U6 Fare program), you can choose 1 child and 1 adult seats for free regardless if it is a premium seat or economy seat. So if you are travelling with your spouse, then he/she has to pay for his/her seat. If you have two kids under 6 then all of you get free seat reservations.

With this program the fare of a child over 2-6 years old are cheap. However I am not sure of children 0-2 years old if they can be on a lap (infant lap) for them to be free.

Oh and btw, food and drinks are not inclusive on the trip. You have to pre-purchase it. If you decide to do it while on the plane chances are choices and amounts are limited. Worst case, no food for 10+ hours. shake head

Link [zipair.net] here for more info about their U6 fare program.

Zipair is great for solo travelers and travelers looking for bare-bones experience. Don't recommend them for family or large number of folks.

As others have mentioned, you have to pay for everything: carry ons, checked bags, food, including water.

This is the savings you get from full service airlines. However, often times the fare difference for me is usually a couple hundred of dollars depending on when you're traveling. In some cases, you can save a ton during low seasons with a round trip around $800-$900. But if you factor in the carryon, checked bags, etc. The savings may not be much after all

"Golden Week in Japan is a week-long holiday period consisting of several national holidays. It typically starts on April 29th, Showa Day, which honors the birthday of Emperor Showa. Then, May 3rd is Constitution Memorial Day, followed by Greenery Day on May 4th, which celebrates nature and the environment. Finally, May 5th is Children's Day, which honors children's personalities and happiness. These holidays are clustered together, creating an extended vacation period when many Japanese people travel domestically or abroad."
