I bought this last week. It looks new. The laptop itself is good enough for the price (<$300). For over $300, I would wait for other deals, like the $399 Dell at Costco which was sold out quickly.
is this better than the $300 Micro Center deal we had for 14" HP Elitebook 845 G8 recently..it had a Pro Ryzen Processor

7520U Ryzen is a renamed Gen 3 Ryzen 3 4 core 8 thread processor in the new naming scheme.
the 7530u is 6 core 12 thread gen 4 for the same $ is what I would look for.

Bottom end and you can probably do better for the $ IMO.

This is a nice laptop for a majority of people. Perfect for a student.

Pros:
- Lots of features.
- Touchscreen if you need it.
- 16gb ram
- Newish processor (old processor made with new tech)
- USB-C Charging
- 512gb storage
- Comes with a protective sleeve.

Cons:
- Graphics could have been way better...
- I bought this "refurbished from Acer" on ebay, for $250 like 9 months ago. It came in mint condition.

Great deal. Does it charge over USB C?

This might be a better deal (if you have a bit more money):

https://www.costco.com/hp-17.3%22...56739.html
  • AMD Ryzen 5 7530U
  • Touchscreen 17.3" screen.
  • 12 GB memory (not sure if this is upgradeable),
  • 1.0 TB SSD. Not sure about the backlit keyboard.
  • BT 5.3
Thoughts?

Available in store.

Shit resolution. 17" is too large for a laptop and too small for a desktop replacement.

It's not even FHD at 17+ inch screen and 4gb less ram and cost $100 more… feels like there are better deals at the near $500 range

AMD pulled a fast one with the naming, this is not a real Ryzen 5. Since the 4000 series, all mobile Ryzen 5 chips have had 6 cores. This only has 4, and they are Zen 2 cores based on tech from 2020. So performance is much lower than any Ryzen 5 from the past 4 years, slower even than a Core i3 from 2021 [cpubenchmark.net].

If you have a Micro Center nearby, check out the EliteBook 845 G8 [microcenter.com]. Less RAM and storage, but both very easly upgradable. I had that exact laptop previously, it's built very well and should last longer than any consumer laptop like this. The performance (6 Zen 3 cores) totally blows this one out of the water [cpubenchmark.net].

It was up for 329$ on best buy around end of March. Got it. This is a good laptop for light use. It doesn't come with drivers installed. So, remember to install everything from scratch. In product page battery backup showed 11 hours, in reality it is between 6-7 hours as I am getting. Good for the price, given touch screen and moderate specs. I wish I could expand ram, but it is soldered. Ram usage is always around 70-80% which gives me OCD. 😪

How are refurbs in general, are the ebay refurbs technically sold by Acer?...I would be a little worried buying a refurb from ebay but that is just because I don't really know enough about it.

Specs seem pretty decent, anyone can comment on the build quality? I've recently picked up a 14" HP EliteBook and really like the build quality and serviceability. Need another 15.6-16" laptop for a family member, would love to get another EliteBook, but I imagine getting one under $500 would not be easy.

I haven't found anyone's take on the Costco Dell 15.6 Ryzen 7 deal that starts today for $499 + $15 shipping.

It has 16gb, touch, backlit keyboard, and a 1 tb ssd.

Is it worth the upgrade over this deal?

How does this compare to https://www.costco.com/acer-aspir...33966.html for student use?

I can't figure out if the Aspire 5 has upgradeable memory.
