Impressive specs. 16GB and light as the PixelBook Go? Might replace my mother's PB Go for this price. Coverage until 2031 (2 years more than PB Go).
Anyone have anything bad to say? From what I read, the speakers are disappointing. But beyond that, I'm not reading about too much that's disappointing.

Too bad this is not qualified as Chromebook plus program.

True. But I can't say that any of the software feature "unique" to the Chromebook Plus marketing are really that compelling, at least to me. I have an Acer 516 GE that is a Chromebook Plus model and I don't use any of it. But if I was a Google Meet user or if I used Google Photos, then yes, there are a couple of interesting features in those apps that would be nice to have.

Any reason why you are considering this model if you already have the 516 GE? I've been looking at both to replace my old trusty C302CA (finally)
If you're going to take this out and about, I would suggest the CX9. If it's just a couch laptop like mine, then I would go with the 516GE.
I keep waffling over RAM between these two, even though I know I don't necessarily need 16 GB. I don't plan on routinely taking this device on the road, but I also don't want the laptop to ultimately be unwieldy either, hence the extended look at this deal on the CX9. I know that there's a sizeable jump in CPU power between these two i5s with the jump to 12th gen on the 516 GE, but I wonder how well power draw is managed even though TDP on paper is the same.

LOL. The torture. Well, the 516 GE comes with a 65Wh battery and the CX9 comes with a 50Wh battery. But that really doesn't tell the full story. Not when you're talking about a 16" 120Hz display vs a 14" 60Hz display. I can't speak to the CX9, but the 516 GE will reliably give me 6-8 hours when doing generic day-to-day task. Play a game and I can burn out that battery in 90 minutes.
The irony is that the 16GB is wasted on the CX9. There's a 16GB 516 GE, but I've never seen one in the real world. But the 16GB would provide *some* benefit to playing games via Steam installed locally. They both have Iris Xe graphics, but neither will play much more than some basic Steam games. There's an official list of compatible games on a Chromebook using the Steam beta. Just Google it. I had some fun playing Rise of Nations installed locally on the 516 GE. It's a 20 year old game. It still shit the bed after 90 minutes. Crashed, done. Game over. Oh well. But it's really not something I would focus on. Nice, but not necessary. Maybe more valuable when you're playing with Linux, but that's about it IMO.
You're torturing yourself over this. I can respect that. I do the same.

Indeed - torture is the right term here, esp given that I really won't be gaming either way. I think that's why I haven't fully committed to the 516 GE, which has been available from Acer refurbished for $273 on eBay for weeks now off and on. I know that screen would be nice, but then I'm sure I'll have some reservation about the size if I had it in hand vs the more nimble sizing I'm used to when I need to just pop open a Chromebook for general usage.
The only spec that makes this not qualify for Chromebook Plus is the webcam. Plus status requires 1080p or better and this is only 720p. I'd prefer Plus just to have the option, but to be honest I doubt I'll miss it if I didn't have it - none of the Plus features are of much importance to me given my current use pattern.

Which processor do you have on your CX9?
Every review I have found complains about the battery life of the CX9, but all of those had the i7. One even said it was the worst battery life of any CB. I'm sure battery life will be longer with i3 or i5 but so much so that it would be considered a benefit?

I don't have the CX9. I was considering it for my mother. But we discussed it and she would prefer staying with her Pixelbook Go for now.
But I have read similar issues to the one you describe with respect to battery life.

Both devices are very good, for different reasons. Typing this on the 516 GE now.
516GE Benefits: Bigger screen, higher resolution, 120Hz,
CX9 Benefits: Lightweight, better battery life, built-in mSD card reader.
