First off, not everyone can be a navy federal member. You have to serve in the military, be a dod contractor, or be related to a navy federal member. This card also has a $49 annual fee.

This isn't a new deal as far as I can tell but I've been shopping around for a "generic" cash back card for general purchases. All the deal sites that list the top cards didn't note this one, I'm guessing due to the fact that navy fed isn't open to everyone.

However it seems pretty competitive. 3% back on travel. 2% back on everything else. It also covers one year Amazon prime, cost of Global Entry (which also works for TSA pre), and $350 worth of points if you spend $3500 in 90d, plus visa signature benefits.

I know other cards have higher returns for specific type purchases, and one has 3% back for the first year, then 2%, and the wells fargo card is 2% with no annual fee, but if you want/use prime and/or global entry, seems like a good deal. It's potential stacked is $350 if you spend $3500 in 90d, $100 global entry, $150 Amazon prime = $600 in benefits that theoretically can be used in the first 90d.

Fine print here https://www.navyfederal.org/conte.../823cc.pdf

If anyone knows of a better "all purpose" card please chime in.

How is this post not fitting for SD? This seems exactly like the kind of info this site was made for hosting.
Since I'm posting a lot now, the last thing I'll say about this card, it that its likely to change in the next year to be better with a higher annual fee of $95 based on a survey NavyFed put out at the start of the year to ask if we would like the potential changes.

The current version gives Amazon Prime free one time in the cards life. The survey asked if we would pay more to have it every year plus the following tweaks.

4x points for travel (currently 3X).
3x for restaurants (new)
2x on everything else
Global\TSA stays.
Fair. I've seen cc deals posted here before and thought members might appreciate. If not, I won't be offended if it dies on the vine 😂

I have had this card for 15 years. Taken many ffree lights using the rewards. They give you the cash so you can buy the ticket. Yes, my amazon has been paid in full each year automatically. I recently found after making a charge of $35 in China which I didn't know was china. The place in china sent me a receipt for $35.00 and then another place upped the charge to $45 which resulted in a fraudulent up charge. The wait time to speak with Navy federals fraud unit has the usual wait times of ten hours of hold time. The lowest hold time was 4 hours. Chargebacks can be a real problem with the long wait times 24 hours a day at any time.

That why I said YMMV which is objectively available thus being fair though not the best choice for some.

You may have a grandfather version of this card. The one I have and mentioned on their site is a points version updated about 3 years ago.

it used to be every year and its grandfathered for those who got it a long time ago. For new ones it is only for the 1st year.

Not 100% sure but if you have a copy of his DD214 and your birth certificate showing he is indeed your father that should be enough to become a member. As the other commenter mentioned a quick call should be enough to get you the details you need. Good luck!

I've had mine for only 4 years and I get prime reimbursement every year. They also reimbursed for both mine and my wife's precheck. All automatically.

This is the important question here. Most people think it's one time only. If this card paid prime every year it would be a must carry. The price of prime is only going to go up as Amazon greed continues.

Not sure. Some are saying they get reimbursed every year. But fine print only states one time. Also, didn't realize ALL visa signature cards pay for global entry.

*Edit* sounds like those folks are grandfathered and it's only 1x prime reimbursement. Not every year.

Has anyone taken advantage of the Amazon prime benefit? My brother and I share Amazon prime account and right now he is the primary account holder and his card is on file. Can I simply update the prime account payment method to be taken out from my (this) card or does prime account holder have to match the card holder?
Based on the fine print they will credit your account for one annual prime membership charged to the card, so you should be good if you update the prime membership payment card to this one.

How is the point value when it comes to redemption? I stopped using my Penfed card because the points became heavily devalued.

Yes, we did the same thing for deceased parent/vet when we joined NFCU back in 2020. Just needed his DD214.
