For Northern Lawns only just FYI
There are you tube video suggest buying just grass seed and fertilizer separately is cheaper. This bag does not have that much grass seed as it is filled with soil and fertilizer. Just saying
40lbs is cheaper if you need more than 2 👍 bags

Can't be shipped to Central Florida. The Bermuda grass is same price btw on sale as well
That's because this grass won't survive in southern climates — it's a cool season blend. Be careful buying Bermuda seed it will look different than hybrid varieties typically used. And because it is Bermuda, it will be nearly impossible to kill.

Waste of money. Youre paying for dirt.
Buy seed seperate, buy feed seperate.

Same as any chemicals - always buy concentrate

I just added weed and feed to my lawn yesterday. Adding this would burn the lawn no?
Depends on what herbicide was used on the w&f. Some you have to wait up to 6 weeks for it to breakdown. look at your bag and see if there is any directive for seeding after application. Not a w&f fan, weeds don't need treating when grass needs fertilizer and grass doesn't necessarily need fertilizer when weeds need treating. Plus you're applying herbicide to a whole lawn when spot treatment would give you better results with less herbicide use.

12% seed in case anyone is wondering: 66% rye and 33% fescue
66% rye?! 😂🤣 good grief that's awful. I roll with local landscaping store. Seeds are much higher quality, higher purity, zero weed seed, certified, and with a mixed variety of fescue/bluegrass which is what you want and ratios are determined by sun/shade area of lawn.

Ryegrass is hot garbage and shouldn't exceed 10-15% of a fescue blend. Real seed blends should have 0% ryegrass to begin with.

Seed costs are negligible to the total maintenance costs of a lawn. Don't skimp on seed. Spend the extra $10 to get the real stuff vs. this mass produced low quality rye garbage. You'll have to buy better seed later anyway to replace this stuff.

Theoretically, rye is the quickest to germinate and is there as a "starter" variety for the fescue/Kentucky blue to fill in and takeover. Reality is it's unnecessary as prepping and laying down straw will hold the bare soil fine and provide coverage/moisture retention for fescue to germinate.

Would this work to over seed a lawn? Had some spots in my lawn not recover from the summer heat last year and weeds took over a few 2'x2' spots. Killing the weeds now but wanted to fill in some new grass with what grass is there.

agree, buy seed only, this stuff is waste of money.

also, it's very important/important to water the area (seeded) for at least 2 weeks DAILY.

Not true. Nobody mixes as well as Scotts.

Everybody who says this is a waste of money has no idea what they're talking about. Can you buy your own grass seed? Yes. Can you buy your own fertilizer? Yes. Can you attempt to mix the two correctly? Yes. Will it turn out as good as the very specialized mixing machinery Scotts has? No.

Just picked up a 40lb bag since I like the fact Amazon will deliver to door. My neighbor uses this stuff and swears by it. His lawn is immaculate while mine is bare and brown. Let's see how it goes this year.
