I know my friend was after the Paladea Evolved set because of a few cards he wants, but why are those priced like $10 higher than the rest?!

151 and Ruler Black Flame (Japanese) although the prices are kind of high. They're both getting a reprint which should bring down prices some. If the price is off-putting, look into buying singles on eBay, TCGPlayer, etc.
Lost Origin is fun as well. Really any Scarlet & Violet (S&V) set except Paradox Rift! The earlier S&V sets are all fun, lots of hits and amazing beautiful cards.

As for which sets to open/collect:
151 and Ruler Black Flame (Japanese) although the prices are kind of high. They're both getting a reprint which should bring down prices some. If the price is off-putting, look into buying singles on eBay, TCGPlayer, etc.

If you have kids I make my kids do chores and give them cards instead of money and get the fun of opening with them so it's a win win I just am careful about which sets I buy because some of them kinda suck. I suggest watching videos of the chase cards and seeing what ones you want the most.
