Awesome. Grabbed one. I have the AeroPress Go, but keep forgetting it at work. Makes me wonder if they're prepping to release the XL in Tritan plastic like they did with the original.

I like the original Aeropress size as it takes about 30-40 seconds for the plunger to be depressed. The XL is awkward as it takes almost a minute to depress and could result in more bitter/astringent taste at times due to that.

My obligatory recommendation for a Mesh resuable filter to pair with this bad boy: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CND9DC68

Personally not a fan of the XL, though. I have all 3 versions and prefer the Go. If you want to make more coffee ("double your brew" as XL was intended) you can just make stronger brew with the Regular/Go and water it down more....

isn't one of the main draws to the aeropress the fact that it has paper filters? there are benefits to having a paper filter which isn't just for keeping grounds out of your coffee

if you use a filter it's mild and smoothest cup o' jo, if you use metal it's got some bitterness in it more like a french press I guess? but no grit

I have the Go and are you saying to just to double the amount of ground coffee and then pour another 8 oz of hot water into the finished cup?

Are you doing the inverted brew? how long of rest before the press?

You may have saved me another $50.

According to the inventor the paper filter can be re-used up to 80 times.

I still have an old generic metal filter, long before Aeropress went to silicone (the original rubbery stuff liquified as it aged/hardened).

Getting sediment through depends on how good a grinder is or the grind size. But there's the F2 model from "Ten Mile" that's a 30-micron metal filter - almost no grinds, and the oils aren't absorbed/filtered.

For the thicker metal filters (esp the ones with a reinforced band), you want to tighten the cap a little more snugly, to have a more threaded surface area, in case the plastic threads crack under extreme pressing.
