Be aware that these are the base M1 models with binned 7-core GPUs, only 2 ports and no touchID on the keyboard. I'd personally recommend spending the extra &100 on the 8-core GPU model with 4 ports and touchID (as well as Ethernet on the power cable).

Amazing deal for an incredible screen, dead silent operation, and fast speeds all around for non-gamers (and even some games are starting to appear for MacOS!!).

The only question: If it's worth another $50 to get the (admittedly, orange only) model with touchID (easier logins and authentications), 1/8th more GPU grunt, 2 more USBC ports, and an ethernet port in the power supply (which is surprisingly convenient!)

I'd say it IS worth another $50 for most people: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/imac...22Deals%22

(Just click on M1 8 Core and then the orange color to see the $850 price)

The best 'deal' is probably open box M1 8 GPU-core (touchID) for $800, excellent condition. That would be worth getting…

Pulled the trigger and bought this iMac. Our current iMac is a 2011. Thanks.

The orange iMac model for $850 is a sweet deal. The refurbished units on Apple's site cost more!

It's a shame there is no affordable 27" iMac option. 24" is just too small for me these days.

Hell of a deal for the 5k retina display alone. M1 is still a fabulous processor, to boot. Don't be turned off by 8GB RAM - these M-generation setups are extremely efficient with RAM management. I do intensive 4K video editing on an M1 MBA with 8GB and barely notice any hiccups - for 90% of use cases, this will be a perfect home desktop setup.
Uhh... okay. But then why pay $800 just to "browse"? I haven't bought laptops for that much in over a decade. I can update RAM, NVME, SSD, etc on my MS laptop and I didn't pay $800 for it.

That's what never made sense to me about the Apple Kool-aid. If that is the use case why pay $800?

It's disgusting to watch people that don't know any better get fleeced.

I used to be a quiet bystander to these things and now, (carefully and with tact) I'll try to offer some help when I spot this.
I don't even use tact anymore. If I see someone getting taken advantage of I step in and tell them the better deal and where to get it.

Not in the traditional sense. https://shop.astropad.com/collect...na-display

It it's for several millions of people, not why people put their fear on other people. It's possible that analytical data shows 90% of people that use desktop computers are simply browsing. Or doing very light productivity work.
2 Tabs in Chrome and you're done! 😂

It isn't just to use a browser, Mac OS is much more efficient than Windows will ever be and when you learn about that, you understand why this system works for so much more than just browsing. My wife has an M2 Mac Mini with similar specs and she uses it for all kinds of creative work without slowdown.

Even more, many of her apps have free cloud storage for some of her files.

The 2011 is slow to start and lags when moving between programs.. We don't do any video editing and not much beyond visiting web sites and occasionally print items such as Turbo Tax.
Can you still upgrade the OS for machines that old? Don't they basically force you to get a new machine as you can't install new programs?

Yes, they can be updated. Sometimes might need a few hardware updates and definitely a lot of patience. https://dortania.github.io/OpenCo...y-Patcher/
