Time as well. Plus, you can adjust the time to daylight savings with just a push of one button.

Hint: Plug a small battery charger with "float" function into one of these and connect that charger to your lawn equipment, motorcycle, ATV, boat, etc. and set it to turn on for 30 minutes a day or so. Keeps your battery from self-discharging and shortened life, and it's always at full charge when you're ready to ride. It's a lot gentler on the battery than leaving it on a maintainer 24/7, and my intermittent use batteries last for many years with a similar dial timer/charger setup.

Does it display a clock or just the timer?

I'm looking for something with this functionality but that also has current time readout.

It is very useful before and reliable too, but not as flexible as a smart plug!

This may not be true because with my Battery Minder Plus, when I turn off the power strip to which it's plugged into, the Battery Minder Plus will drain the car battery, thus can kill a battery. I don't know about another brand, the Battery Tenderizer, which did over charge and killed a battery when plugged in all the time. So I guess what you say really depends on the battery charger.

Agreed; most chargers will not draw from the battery when unplugged but it's best to check with a milliamp meter. I use several brands as I have quite a few batteries to keep up with. One is a Schumacher farm/ranch brick, a couple are the tiny Everstart inline ones, and at least one is a Universal Battery wall wart. Another is a Schumacher Action Wheels one with the blue plugs, which seems to float at a little higher voltage for exclusive AGM use. And I have a couple of Schumacher bricks that look like the farm/ranch one but are labeled differently. And I think an Energizer on my motorcycle. None of these discharge my batteries when unplugged from AC, and all do the job well. They range between 1 and 4 amps, with the higher amp ones implemented on larger batteries. I do not buy or use maintainers because of the problem you mentioned with cooking batteries. Just my personal preference based on a career working with DC power, batteries, and electronics. If you or anyone else likes maintainers, more power to you, but they're not for me. A great concept, but a lot of the mass produced offerings are half-baked, which leads to batteries being fully baked. Topping off charge once a day, then letting the battery rest for 23.5 hours, makes for a very happy battery in my experience. If any of my chargers draws a few milliamps when powered down, it's of little or no consequence with my setup.

There's a good possibility that maintainers are more likely than old school chargers to discharge batteries when unplugged, as they take a more active role in monitoring battery voltage when not charging.

Do these make any noise at all? Like a gear winding noise.

They likely only click once when turning on or off. There are no moving parts other than an internal relay that makes the click when switching output, so no constant noise like the old style dial timers make. Those have a motor that runs all the time and can be annoying.
