As other poster said u must use distilled water. anything else any minerals in the water with turn Into a fine mist of particulate. Even a 1 gallon a day can put a fine layer of mineral on everything after a week or 2. Bad to breathe it.
I didn't know this. Distilled water it is from now on, only.
Freaking a, that should be in big bold letters on the box and on the reservoir.
RO water works perfectly well

I know this isn't an SD thing, but I have owned e German engineered Venta Humidifier for 18 years now. It performs both evaporative humidification and air purification in a simple design that's easy to clean and lasts forever. Not cheap, and as far as I can tell, never been on sale.
Has to be RO or Distilled. I returned my last ultrasonic humidifier after finding what I'd be paying in distilled water and got an evaporative. Worked great last winter!
I use water from a Zero Water filter. Gets down to 000 particulate. Plus the water tastes better. Serves two purposes.

Yup I have the LW400 in white purchase back in 2012. Last winter 2022, the motor started to make a lot of noise (grinding like noise but it is not grinding, just the sounds). Then this past winter the motor stopped working. I received instructions on decalcifying the motor but have not had a chance to do so. Purchased the Levoit humidifer from Costco in replacement. So far it has been working great for me.
Saves money on humidifier, spends saved money on distilled water.
Just move to Florida. You can save on not buying this machine and distilled water altogether but end up paying way more for your house in a saturated market. Humidity year round though...

I used vicks V3900 years ago but it's too small even for single small room.

I use tap water in my humidifiers and have one of these in each. It doesn't completely remove the minerals, but it seems to reduce it quite a bit.
