As other poster said u must use distilled water. anything else any minerals in the water with turn Into a fine mist of particulate. Even a 1 gallon a day can put a fine layer of mineral on everything after a week or 2. Bad to breathe it.

Most RO systems have a re-mineralization "filters", I believe it's the last stage. I have the following one and it adds minerals.

Is that different from using a "regular" humidifier? Like, is the distilled water a requirement for this type of machine vs being able to use tap water in a Vicks or Holmes brand warm humidifier? Is the key word that it's a "mist" machine?

No one is saying you have to use distilled water, but because tap water has a lot minerals and ultrasonic humidifiers spread it around in the air which isn't ideal. So distilled water is recommended. Many people like me have used RO water with good results. RO water is much cheaper than distilled water and you don't have to buy and lug around the water.

This is a good price for a humidifier but I didn't buy because I prefer a humidifier that can be loaded from the top rather than having to flip the tank over. Once you have one that can be topped off, you realize how convenient that is.

I am reading that they recommend demineralized, distilled or purified water even in evaporative humidifiers. Primarily to prevent bacteria and mold growth in the unit.

Its safe, but the evapopad will turn into stalactites from all the minerals. Ultra sonics will shove everything into the air, vs just water from the evaps.

FYI - this is a bottom fill container, while it is cheap, I'm never going back to those containers that I have to pull out. Replaced all the old ones like these with levoit from Costco which are top fill

I had this type of humidifier, and I found that the mineral particles would clog your AC filter within a few days, no matter which filter you are using, if you don't use distilled water. It was a hard lesson.
