After some research, I found out that the new phones need to be activated by calling tracfone and giving them your IMEl number as well as letting them know that you have prepaid for a year of service through eBay. It was very frustrating trying to get the phone to work until I spoke with a freindly voice at tracfone wireless. Texting with tractone through ebay was not helpful, pass on that if you can. This phones minutes and # can also be also be transferred to a nicer phone if you have one.

Worked- you have to set up through their website with the IMEl from under the cover and battery. Not sure why the phone packaging didn't tell you this.
Go the website, put in your IMEl, and follow the directions there, then it will activate and work. Don't bother following the in phone prompts about activating, they didn't work for me and it was frustrating. I once I did it through the website it worked immediately.

After activation 2 system updates become available one after the other (settings, turn on wifi, then scroll down to software update, check for updates). Wifi calling becomes available after activation as well, with no minutes deducted in that mode. Easily imported contacts by copying vcard export from previous phone to the new phones, then importing. Great value if you are looking to save a buck.

Easy to activate. You will need the IMEl and to do it on the TracFone website. Just follow simple instructions. Power off device and back on after activation and go to updates in settings and update the phone 2 times to activate WiFi calling. The minutes and texts automatically are on the device once activated. Phone is what I wanted for a burner.

Personally, I think the best way for this deal to be used is to activate both phones, which then starts the 60 day count down for these 2 cheapy devices to be unlocked. Then transfer both plans into your current daily driver phone to boost it with 2+ years of service.
$40 for 2 years of service.. I honestly don't know why this isn't a fire deal. But whatever.

When I checked a little before the two months mark, the automated unlocking website said that they were already unlocked.
I haven't checked since, but I also had no further use for the phones.
