Can these be used as always power connected battery backup for sump pump? My pump is 1/2HP, 115V, 10.5 AMP, 1250 running watts and about 3500 starting watts....my guess is that this may not be able to give enough juice to start the pump but should be okay when its running.

Did a quick search and the average 1/2HP Sump Pump requires 1050 (Running) 2150-4100 (Starting) so from what you provided this one may do ok maintaining it but not starting it.

Might be a better question for Anker's Customer Service to get a better idea.

I thought this was a slick deal site, not an everyday price deal site.

Um, no, you will need a more capable unit. The surge on this is claimed at 2400w and even then for maybe a half second. So really I read somewhere that induction motors, like your sump pump should have 3 to 4 x the rated running watts. So really, consider a 5000w unit if you want it to reliably run. Maybe a 3500w unit might run it reliably. Try it, just make sure you can return it still.

I use a Pecron 1500LFP power station in UPS mode to backup a Zoeller 98-0001 1/2 HP sump pump with no issues. Runs fine under pure battery power.

The well pump, on the other hand needs much, much more power start.
