Watch the pricing when you buy. The way the ad ran it sounded like $79.99 + $30 for recycling then minus the $30 coupon for recycling. The ad then states you get 10% off, which should then total $72. Best Buy does the following: Pricing was $79.99 - $30 discount = $49.99 then - $5 for a price of $45 for the monitor. That sounds great, but then they add a separate line item of +$30 for recycling. If you have to return the monitor (broken, bad pixels), They will give you $45 back, not the $75 purchase price. Essentially, if you get a bad item, you then do have to pay the $30 recycling fee. Screw that. Go to Walmart. The LG 24ml600m-b is on sale for $71.28 - no recycling scam.

Actually just upset with the rude rep at my local BB. First trip to the store they told me there was no recycling promotion for my state. Found the details of the promotion didn't mention anything like that, and returned a second time. I got a "sorry about that". I knew I would not get the great deal you got; I just expected a price of $72 pretax. The rep at my store came up with the $79.99-$30 then 10% off of that number. A recycling fee of $30 was then added on to my receipt for $75 plus tax.
That price isn't bad, but if the monitor is damaged in shipping (had that happen once), or if the monitor does not work properly, then there's a problem. In the case of MY store (and maybe just my store), if I have to return the item, I only get $45 back + tax. The store keeps the $30. I just wanted to make people aware of that, and to check the receipt to see how the store worked the numbers. To me I considered that a scam since I have a few opportunities a year to get rid of monitors for free. For those that don't, it's a non-issue.
Sorry op for making it sound like I was dumping on your deal – that wasn't my intent. I appreciate everyone that takes time to post on this site. And no, I did not thumbs down your post. I agree that's what the instructions sound like, but as I had stated, YMMV.

10% would be $8, not $5.

After I realized that they did not charge me the $30 fee, I went and turned in more old monitors.
So I got more deals on the LG monitors at $49.

To some, recycling eWaste is helpful, and not a 'scam,' as you say.
I for one, have too many electronics, and was glad that I hadn't gotten around to dumping these monitors, as they are now worth $30 each, better than what I could have got on CL, spending time and energy.

Feel free to go to Walmart and pay more if that's your favorite B&M.

No good for those of us in Connecticut unless you have a Dynex or Insignia monitor you're trading in... Those are the only monitor brands they accept in CT.

And in PA and IL, BB's corporate website says they simply will not accept items for recycling because it is not cost effective for them. The memo is dated 2016 but I fully expect it to hold true today.

I tried calling my local BB to check and see what the stipulations were and it still sent me to a corporate rep not at my local store. And they fed me the same line about it needing to be a Dynex or Insignia monitor and that made it the third different thing told to me about whether this recycling program exists and what all is eligible. They also told me bringing in any monitor got me a discount on any other monitor brand purchased, not just Samsung or LG.

Guess I have to go in store and verify for myself since I want the 27" LG OLED monitor and 10% off would be nice but I'd rather not find out after bringing in an old monitor that they either don't give a discount on bringing one in or that they accept two brands of monitors only.

I thought about doing the same thing for the 27" LG OLED (the newest model) monitor that's currently on sale for $799. But like you said, I'm not lugging the old monitor I have (which is easily 15-20 years old) to the store, just to get the run around

I think what irks me the most is calling the phone number of my local store still gets me routed through a call center or a central office. I have no idea how to reach someone at a specific store to ask about it. I'd get a name and bring the monitor in and go directly to them to make sure what was said on the phone was true. Can't do that, though.

If you want to recycle monitors (and other tech), take 'em to Staples. Staples will actually pay YOU $5 Rewards (max) each month for doing so.

If Staples has the monitor you want, ask them to price match to Beat Buy, Amazon, Costco. Apply your Rewards to drop that down further, along with dropping any applicable sales taxes.

I don't have a clue why people shop at BB nowadays. Only interesting thing there was physical media and that's all gone now. Just overpriced cables and the general look of Circuit City or Fry's just before they went under.

Seems too much work for a 10% even an old monitor can be repurposed unless it's broken

I just got a 34" uw 144hz 1080p for $160 from someone on marketplace; i know it's extreme YMMV but compared to what someone might be offloading and selling for cheap vs buying just garbage tiny monitors that have horrible specs seems counterintuitive unless you are going top off the line OLED with the 10% this isn't the right way to do these kind of programs
