Agreed. Best strategy to apply this is to do it early morning when the grass is covered in dew. This will save you from having to manually water the lawn.

I'm not the biggest fan of Weed N Feeds or 3-in-1 lawn products. But if you are going to use this, make sure your lawn is wet/damp before applying. Otherwise it will do nothing for the weeds.

The best time to apply fertilizer that includes weed-killing properties, commonly referred to as "weed and feed," depends on the type of weeds and the climate of your area. For the most effective results, you should target weeds during their active growth periods.

For cool-season weeds, which include types like dandelion and chickweed, the ideal time for treatment is in the fall, when these weeds are actively growing and preparing for winter. For warm-season weeds, like crabgrass and nutsedge, the best time to apply weed and feed is during the spring or early summer, when these weeds start their growth cycle.

The timing of application is also important throughout the day. It's recommended to apply weed and feed early in the morning when there is still dew, as this helps the granules stick to the weed leaves, or after watering your lawn. However, avoid application during the heat of the day or late evening, as this can reduce effectiveness due to evaporation and reduced plant activity.

Additionally, make sure the product is suitable for the type of grass and weeds in your yard, and always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the best results and to avoid damaging your lawn.

To be honest I have been doing my own lawn from a long time and I learned from the best of the best, my Father. This stuff is over rated and over priced, also shrinkflation has taken 3k sq ft out of the bag and price has increased. These synthetic feeds nowadays are just pure garbage. Their compensation is smaller granules which I highly recommend using a mask of some sort if you're really going to get this.

My Dad, and now I, swear by Organic feeds like Milorgrante 6-4-0. This applied a few days to a week after using Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer will work better wonders than this garbage ever will. For $5-10 more you can get a much better and lasting product.

Currently I've bald patches in yard. So I assume I will have to do seeds as well with this?

thank you. plus milorganite can go on sale and menards has a knock off. What about crabgrass? I keep losing with it. I even applied it once in march and April and it's like a never winning battle with it.

Probably not a good idea to seed while adding the weed and feed. The bag will have specifics but usually you should wait a month or more

Don't use combination products. Weed and feed is notoriously difficult to apply and get right. You will feel like you wasted your money. Use a product for each job. Fertilizer to fertilize and weed killer to kill weeds.
What do you recommend as a weeding product?

I would caution Milorganite. After using it for a couple of seasons, my Phosphorous content in lawn (P of N-P-K) shot through the roof and I had to stop it. It will take a decade or more to get that P down to normal levels.

I wouldn't use this as a weed killer myself, but I would use it when over/seeding. Works well as a booster for the seed and helps as a pre-emergent while not completely destroying chances of germinating.

Insanely expensive ... if you have any type of farm supply or fertilizer distributor, call/stop-by and ask them, they should have much better pricing than this.

Many thanks for your advice. I would like to apply this product on my St Augustine Grass in Tampa Bay area, FL. Could you please advise me when is the best time (Fall, Spring or Summer) to use this Milorgrante and also the morning or evening time and also have to water the lawn before or after applying it. We've been using Scott's Weed and Feed without seeing some advantage on our lawn. So requesting your invaluable advice. TIA

I thought you weren't supposed to use this stuff when overseeding?
