Agreed. Best strategy to apply this is to do it early morning when the grass is covered in dew. This will save you from having to manually water the lawn.
I'm not the biggest fan of Weed N Feeds or 3-in-1 lawn products. But if you are going to use this, make sure your lawn is wet/damp before applying. Otherwise it will do nothing for the weeds.
The best time to apply fertilizer that includes weed-killing properties, commonly referred to as "weed and feed," depends on the type of weeds and the climate of your area. For the most effective results, you should target weeds during their active growth periods.

For cool-season weeds, which include types like dandelion and chickweed, the ideal time for treatment is in the fall, when these weeds are actively growing and preparing for winter. For warm-season weeds, like crabgrass and nutsedge, the best time to apply weed and feed is during the spring or early summer, when these weeds start their growth cycle.

The timing of application is also important throughout the day. It's recommended to apply weed and feed early in the morning when there is still dew, as this helps the granules stick to the weed leaves, or after watering your lawn. However, avoid application during the heat of the day or late evening, as this can reduce effectiveness due to evaporation and reduced plant activity.

Additionally, make sure the product is suitable for the type of grass and weeds in your yard, and always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the best results and to avoid damaging your lawn.

Hard to imagine it was specifically from the Milorganite as it has one of the lowest P contents of any commercial fertilizer you can buy and one of the only rated organic treatment types.
Its 6-4-0, 4% is not the lowest. High phosphorous was noted on my soil test.

What is an effective product to apply to a lawn to prevent and treat weeds?
ChatGPT
For preventing and treating weeds in your lawn, you have several effective options. Here are some popular types of products you might consider:

Pre-emergent Herbicides: These are used to prevent weed seeds from germinating. Products containing the active ingredients such as pendimethalin, prodiamine, or dithiopyr are commonly used. They are most effective when applied in early spring before weed seeds start to germinate.

Post-emergent Herbicides: These are used to kill weeds that have already sprouted. Selective herbicides target specific weeds without harming the grass. Look for products containing 2,4-D, dicamba, or MCPP for broadleaf weeds, and products with quinclorac or fenoxaprop-p-ethyl for grassy weeds.

All-in-One Weed & Feed: These products combine fertilizer with weed control, which can be convenient. They typically include a post-emergent herbicide and are designed to strengthen your lawn while combating existing weeds.

Organic and Natural Options: For those preferring a more natural approach, corn gluten meal can be used as an organic pre-emergent herbicide. Vinegar-based solutions or essential oils like clove oil might be effective for small areas with young weeds.

When choosing a product, it's important to identify the types of weeds you are dealing with and select a product suitable for your specific grass type. Always follow the manufacturer's application instructions and safety guidelines closely to ensure effectiveness and safety for your lawn and the environment.

What are some specific product names that are pre-emergent herbicides?

ChatGPT
For controlling weeds before they germinate, pre-emergent herbicides are an excellent choice. Here are some specific product names that are popular among gardeners and lawn care professionals:

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade): This is a widely used pre-emergent herbicide that controls a variety of grassy and broadleaf weeds. It's popular in professional landscaping due to its effectiveness and flexibility in application timing.

Dimension 2EW Dithiopyr: Another professional-grade product, this herbicide is effective at preventing weeds and can also control early-stage crabgrass after it has germinated.

Pendulum 3.3 EC (Pendimethalin): This herbicide offers broad-spectrum control of many grassy and broadleaf weeds, and is commonly used on both lawns and in landscape areas.

Snapshot 2.5 TG: This product combines two active ingredients (trifluralin and isoxaben) to prevent a wide range of broadleaf and grassy weeds, and is often used in mulched areas to prevent weed emergence.

Corn Gluten Meal: For those seeking an organic option, corn gluten meal can serve as a natural pre-emergent herbicide. It's less effective than chemical options but can reduce weed germination by suppressing weed seed development.

These products can be found in garden centers, home improvement stores, or online retailers. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for application to ensure the best results and to avoid harming desirable plants.

What are some specific product names that are post-emergent herbicides?
ChatGPT
There are several well-known post-emergent herbicide products designed to control existing weeds in lawns without harming the grass. Here are a few specific product names:

Ortho Weed B Gon: This is a selective herbicide effective against broadleaf weeds like dandelions, clover, and chickweed. It can be used on many types of grass without harming them.

Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns: This product targets over 200 types of broadleaf weeds and is safe for use on most lawn types. It comes in ready-to-use formulas and concentrates.

Bayer Advanced All-in-One Lawn Weed & Crabgrass Killer: This herbicide is designed to kill both broadleaf weeds and crabgrass. It's safe for use on many types of grass and can be applied through a hose-end sprayer or a tank sprayer.

Scotts Spot Weed Control for Lawns: Designed for spot treatment, this product is effective against common lawn weeds and is gentle on grass, making it suitable for small areas of infestation.

Roundup for Lawns: Tailored specifically for use on lawns, this formulation of Roundup is safe for grass and effective against a variety of weeds. It's available in ready-to-use sprayers and concentrate.

These products are typically available at garden centers and home improvement stores. Always check the label to ensure the product is suitable for your specific type of grass and adhere to the application instructions to avoid damaging your lawn.

What product can be applied to a lawn in the early to late spring to help the lawn grow?

(ChatPPT confirms the use of Milorganite)

ChatGPT
To help your lawn grow healthy and robust from early to late spring, you'll want to apply a lawn fertilizer that suits the specific needs of your grass type. Here are some popular types of fertilizers and specific products that are well-suited for spring application:

Slow-Release Fertilizers: These fertilizers release nutrients over a period of time, providing steady growth without the risk of burning the grass. Products like Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food are designed to nourish the lawn and promote lush, green growth.

Weed and Feed: Combining weed control and fertilization, these products are great for multitasking. Vigoro Weed and Feed or Sta-Green Weed and Feed can kill weeds while feeding your lawn to enhance its density and health.

Organic Fertilizers: For those preferring natural products, organic fertilizers like Milorganite Organic Nitrogen Fertilizer or Espoma Organic Lawn Food can be excellent choices. These fertilizers are made from natural materials and slowly release nutrients to improve soil health and grass vitality.

Starter Fertilizers: If you're establishing a new lawn or overseeding an existing one, starter fertilizers such as Pennington UltraGreen Starter Lawn Fertilizer provide essential nutrients that help young grass establish roots and grow strong.

Balanced Fertilizers: For general spring lawn care, balanced fertilizers with a mix of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, like Lesco Professional Turf Fertilizer, are beneficial. They support overall lawn health, promoting green color and root development.

When applying any fertilizer, make sure to follow the instructions on the product label closely to avoid over-fertilization, which can damage your lawn. Additionally, consider the type of grass you have, as different grass types have varying nutrient requirements.

I've used the Triple Action the past couple Springs and it's great stuff. I live in Ohio where Fescue and Bluegrass are the most common lawns. I need the crabgrass preventer so instead of buying it separately it's already in the bag. My yard looks awesome! Just a note though, do not put grass seed down. It will NOT grow with a crabgrass preventer applied. Wait until fall like October to overseed.

thank you. plus milorganite can go on sale and menards has a knock off. What about crabgrass? I keep losing with it. I even applied it once in march and April and it's like a never winning battle with it.
That's why Milorganite isn't good in the Spring. I use Milorganite in the hot summer months (July) when I'm worried about burning up the grass . I use Scott's specifically in the Spring for the crabgrass prevention.

Scott's Triple Action works for me just fine every March but maybe that's because I always apply it right after a rainy day. I also always get good results with Scott's winterguard right before the first frost of the year.

I know this stuff isn't perfect, but I've had years where I applied it and it was very clear when I "missed" a stripe. Definite green where this stuff drops, and I had clumps of clover/weeds that the weed killer completely killed and was 100% fine where it hadn't dropped.

What do you recommend as a weeding product?

Pull it out with your gloved hands if you have spots here and there. Take a few mins to pull and you'll learn that it's could be a calming nature of stress relief. But if you have a large 5'x9' area of weeds then it's needed that you spot spray. You'll need to learn the different types of weeds to find the right herbicide to use on the weed to kill it. I'm in the southern warm season grasses so I use Image for southern lawns, and it's available for me at HomeDepot/Lowes/ and Ace Hardware.

Many thanks for your advice. I would like to apply this product on my St Augustine Grass in Tampa Bay area, FL. Could you please advise me when is the best time (Fall, Spring or Summer) to use this Milorgrante and also the morning or evening time and also have to water the lawn before or after applying it. We've been using Scott's Weed and Feed without seeing some advantage on our lawn. So requesting your invaluable advice. TIA

If you're in Florida, you should get on YouTube videos and also the FB Group of Lawn Care Nut. He has specific guides for St. Augustine grass/Warm season grass and all the dates when to throw er' down. And right now is the time to throw er' down (fertilizer). His past videos also talk of Milogranite too. Allyn came from the north and moved down to Florida and has put all his knowledge in lawn care for Florida folks.

You can use it when seeding or overseeding. What you don't want to do is use a pure pre-emergent and seed. That's where you have to choose which you're doing for the season.
