I worked as a remote trail worker and bathed in snow melt creeks every day, but I don't s**t on people that enjoy hot showers. I do s**t on people that needlessly gate keep the wilderness though.
I spent a few summers on fire crews and we would have killed to have access to something like this. The bigger fires had shower trailers , but a lot of the smaller ones didn't. I suppose you could call us "so Chicken" for wanting hot shower after a few days of cutting line and mopping up, but to each their own.
You are going to go through a lot of propane tanks trying to heat that much water

How would this work as a pool heater? I could attach the pool pump to the intake, discharge out into the pool. Pool is around 20k gallons. My electricity usage does not like the pool heater first of the year.
It would take about 5 days and you'd need 11 20# propane tanks. At $4.25 per gallon of propane, it would cost about $400 to heat the pool all in. If that cost is below your cost for the electric heat, then you could get ahead. You'd also have a well used portable heater at the end of the day.

Still needs 3 psi on the intake side. Can't pull from a creek without another pump

II think that might be bad wording. It looks like the heater may need 3 psi which is provided by the onboard pump.

If you wanted to use gas to heat your pool get any water heater, even an old one. Then get a pump and force water through the water heater. Now you have a pool heater that runs on whatever power sources you want to supply it with.

12VDC and propane bottles doesn't make sense for a permanent installation.

You can always get the 3 PSI by filling a container and putting it higher than this heater. Less convenient but gravity can get you the PSI you need.

Agree. I previously used a fire pit wrapped in flexible copper, burned some wood for about 8 hours, running a 8gpm pump it raised the water temp by about 20 degrees. When we fill it we empty the water heater (120g) multiple times. I doubt it makes much difference. The solar blanket does help a lot.

It would need to be like 12 feet high, and large and full enough to keep a constant pressured flow of water without running out. So, not easily.

I disagree. It has a garden hose attachment for a reason. A hose will provide the necessary pressure. The included pump is probably for pushing it through the heating element area.

Absolutely! Hook it up, crank it all the way to hot and hose them down until they pack up and leave.
Won't work. The addicts would just steal and sell it for their next buy.

I need to be able to harness engine heat to warm or boil water. Seems like waste heat could be a good viable alternative to buying a separate propane water heater for camping.

Get a liquid to liquid heat exchanger. Then splice it into your engine cooling system. Most engines run 190ish degrees but some warmer so probably not boiling but close.

These things are amazing. I bought one from Amazon about 2 years ago without the water pump for a backyard quick hot shower set up for the kids after pool time and its still going strong. I bought it as a temporary setup hoping it would last a season until we have a permanent shower situation figured out. But this thing is so reliable rain or shine that I decided I'd splurge the $150 to buy a new one every 2-3 years or whenever the current one dies instead of spending thousands on a permanent setup. Highly recommend this to anyone on the fence.
