If you enjoy making pasta at home, sure. Being totally honest, the average person will probably try it once and get frustrated. Anecdotally, I've occasionally hosted informal pasta making classes showing people what can be done with just a roller and it's about 1 in 5 people who tell me they regularly make fresh pasta as a result. Extruded pastas are generally more difficult to nail the dough, so I would imagine the number of people who will continue to use this is low.

Edit: To be clear, this is a great deal if you're in the market, but I wouldn't recommend buying it if you're expecting it to launch you into the world of fresh pasta making.
I agree, but I suppose that's where quality and warranty length come into play.

Im a terrible Italian in that I dont really care for pasta of any kind (barring lasagna and stuffed shells), but my wife and kids all love any type. So, I bought it. And the other roller attachment for flat styles. Wifes going to kill me, but who cares.

Should be fun to do as a family.

What's the other roller attachment you're talking about? Thanks!

There's good content on a Reddit post about this. This is good for EGGLESS pasta. Pasta Has to be super dry (35-40-% hydration) and not really formed when going through. Overall I have one and like it but it's different beast than the cutter. Like it myself but overall for the extra time cleaning it and challenge it is far less easy to handle than the other attachment for pasta. At 80.00 this price is fair and reasonable considering bed bath and beyond was still trying to sell them for 200+ when they were closing their doors.

I own this pasta press, and it does a poor job. I've done so much better with the KitchenAid pasta roller & cutters kit; the key is to add more olive oil than the recipe desires.

Also want to comment that I own this and the size of the balls of dough seems to be more important that the consistency. I've used recipes with and without eggs with no issue other than being impatient and putting too much dough in at once. The key to success seems to be rolling a bunch of dough balls and dropping them in when it's a little over half full without overfilling. Very easy to use if you're patient.

Looks like it's made with plastic, why is it so expensive? I have the pasta roller attachment, and that's made from metal.

It's called the Stand Mixer Attachment Pasta Roller & Cutter. You use it to make long noodles like spaghetti.

this thing sucks. You continually need to adjust the dough to get the right hydration level and to get a cohesive pasta.

I used it multiple times, taking notes on weight to try and reduce the variability but nothing resulted in a predictable experience. It takes multiple hours to get enough pasta for a small group of people, most of those hours an exercise in anger management.

I would highly recommend against purchasing this. It is not worth it

I've found extruded to be easier than the roller kind. Doesn't take as long and because the dough is more crumbly you don't really need to "work with it" you just make little balls and throw them in the extruder. Only downside is you have to clean the extruder after which takes a few min… comes with a metal pick though to make it easier
Fair enough! Admittedly, I was using the jankier plastic version that came with my old Kitchenaid, which I found finicky as all hell. I'm still confident a majority of people would get fed up (or bored) before realizing the value of this or any other extruder.
