I'd argue this is one of those, "Movie was very loosely based on the book". I really enjoyed this book, but also because I forgot what happened in the movie.
Oh, another one like this..."I Am Legend".

Good book, but one of those rare "not as good as the movie" ones imho, mainly because the characters are more shallow (especially Hammond).

Thank you. Read this book several times as a kid wanted to read again as an adult.

Agreed. Great book, but much better movie. The two kids, in particular, are annoying as shit in the book.

Book was way better than the movie imo. I read it before movie ever came out. When I saw the movie wasn't rated R, I knew it wouldn't be as good as the book. Different opinions abound. Hah

I just finished this book last night and yes, the kids were the worst part. It is not often I wish a kid to actually die in a book, but they were both useless (especially Lex).

One of the great scenes in the book was the T-Rex swimming after Alan Grant and the kids down the river. While other scenes like escaping through pterodactyl aviary was recreated in later movies, I was disappointed that this scene was not recreated in the film.
