Well there's the spec sheet but honestly I don't know how to read it well enough to give you an answer

https://documents.westerndigital....ro-hdd.pdf

I know if you scroll down to the accoustics/dBA section under the environmental part it says 20 when idel and 36 when seeking.. I don't know enough about dBA to tell you how loud that would be.

There's a reddit thread here

https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/...ence_14tb/

where one person says " Red Plus is significantly quieter than Red Pro and also runs cooler. Downside is they are slightly slower than Red Pro, only go up to 14tb and are only recommended for use up to 8 drives."

This is all stuff I just found randomly on the internet hopefully someone with actual experience with Red Pro and Plus can jump in and give you a more definitive answer instead
What's the T-website?
They don't allow to mention the name of those $back website. You need to search for it. The first three letters of the name is "top"

there haven't been a lot of deals lately on new drives. The "normal" deal from BB is $200 for the 14tb easystore, this seems like a good deal!

i believe the Pro's have a 5yr warranty.

Aside from the warranty, are these better than WD white label drives 'shucked' from external drives?

How much louder is the Red Pro compared to the Plus? I have a 6-bay NAS running 4 Pluses, and they have been running whisper quiet for a couple of years. I may pull the trigger if the Pros are not much to louder.

Do you mean installed into say a desktop PC to keep backups on, in an enclosure you attach to a PC or some other situation? 14 TB to me personally seems like a good way to "future proof" your backup solution.. let's face it with the increasingly larger and larger sized files we're keeping on our PC and the increase in size of say a Windows installation as we add more programs to it and then back it up, 14 TB will let you rest easy for a long while Smilie .. obviously this varies from person to person, someone who doesn't have a lot of files on their PC or programs installed on their PC would call it overkill.

I will say that the WD Red Plus , 2 TB version that I was accidentally sent and allowed to keep (I got lucky Smilie ) worked surprisingly well as a regular file storage type drive for me.. until I ran out of room and had to replace it and it was still working fine when I took it out of my desktop PC.

Personally I have a seagate 8TB backup plus hub I bought at Costco for $120 4 years ago. CrystalDiskInfo says it's only been on for about a year in total, and it took me 4 years to fill. I was considering a WD red pro drive to replace it but I read it's kinda overkill for a basic backup drive. Do you have a preference between seagate and WD?
