I own both. They feel similar performance wise but the onn has a better remote plus 4k.

I love having one to bring on trips: usually you can plug them into your hotel room TV and then register them on the hotel's wifi network so that you aren't subject to whatever nonsense TV selection they have.

Fire stick used to be good, now it's terrible. Slow and filled with wayyy too many ads.

That's what I do but I bring my Mango travel router so all I have to do is connect to the hotel wifi, sign into the captive portal if required, then my router captures and then relays my wifi signal and all my devices automatically connect because they think it's the home network. Plus you can set up a VPN for secure browing on public wifi.

edit: here is an older SD post about the Mango router and I believe it has a lot of information regarding the device if you're interested in getting one or something more high end.

I got one of those travel routers free when I extended my Torguard VPN subscription. I haven't used it yet, but I am planning an overseas trip this year. I also have spare Chromecast units I can take since I switched my home setup to nVidia Shields. Thanks for your description of how you use these.

Any reason to buy this over the Walmart Onn box (which supports 4K)?
Nope. I have used both, ditched the google one for the Onn. It runs smoother and I like the remote more.

Don't do it, the HD can bug out with a basic predictable/easily attackable mac address. As in 01:02:03:04:05... exactly that.

Network security risk.
Its likely why they specifically keep going on sale.

Best part? Google is incredibly difficult to do returns. All over several emails, very short return window. The whole thing was a flustercuck in my experience.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there's no Xfinity App for Google TV. I can watch cable without a box on my Roku and Fire Stick but not this.

I've had all versions of the fire stick. After getting this I'm never going back. The chrome is way faster than fire and every fire stick I had would get glitchy after a month or so. Also I have an android phone that makes switching be this and my phone for streaming super fast&easy.

**double checked and I have the 4k version of chromecast.** I'm still getting one of these for the spare room.

Have 5 fire sticks in the house including couple of latest ones to a 85" tv and a projector flawless. The oldest firestick is the one I started seeing slowness because I am using it on 2013 LG Smart TV but it will do the job for Plex, YT and IPTV . Till now I couldn't get on with chromecast with a good experience

I'm wondering if the 4k version of this is faster or something, because mine flys. Especially compared to the stock OS on my TV.

EDIT: Yeah the 4k version of this has more RAM and more processing power.

Which is perfect if you don't have a 4k TV. You can run it at 1080 P with better performance.

Looking to purchase it for the same thing! I know Meta removed support, but I believe they added it back?

I've heard the "recommended" method is to stream the Quest to your phone, and broadcast the phone to a TV.
