Eventually, as happens on the Internet, enough were sold that it is now insured for $42,000.
Which, for what it's worth ... it *FREAKS ME OUT* .. every time I pick it up to play it. I always feel like, "You shouldn't be doing this" or "Your strap could come undone and it would be catastrophic" or a thousand other thoughts.
In the end, I have pushed through that whole mindset with, "Just because some nerd with facts and data and tables and charts SAYS this .. *DOES NOT* .. make it true. The worth of the guitar is how much *YOU* think it is worth. And that's it, that's all that matters."

However, high end Gibsons are also known as "Doctor's Guitars" because physicians always dreamed of being rock stars and form little crappy bands that play dive bars on the weekends. And, it has now risen to the level that Gibson guitars are being compared to Intel or Microsoft stock .. how much that appreciates through time vs. the percentage a Gibson appreciates through time. And it was found that Gibson guitars far exceed any money you could sink in to Ford Motor or Proctor & Gamble. So, you have people buying these who couldn't play a G chord if you put a gun to their head. I saw a recent manifestation of this when attending a cocktail party at a wealthy family's mansion and, RIGHT THERE, in your face, as soon as the grand entrance hall doors open .. a Gibson Les Paul Custom in a glass case with a cone spotlight on it. And I know this dude, I've known him since he was eight years-old. He doesn't know the first doggone thing about playing a guitar and has never even tried.
So, you have that part. Elegant opulence rarely manifests itself in a Jackson, Ibanez or B.C. Rich. Wait 10 years, sell it for $20 at a yard sale. And that's a fact. Stats and data.
There's a very clear line there and it's very real no matter what people say. This is the status of life today and if it hurts somebody's ego, consider that everyone's viewpoint is the most important thing that ever happened in the history of the planet Earth because .. that's the age we live in. There is no other viewpoint other than your opinion. And that's a stone-cold dead-lock lead pipe Commandment in today's society.
OK .. believe what you wanna believe. It's your life. I'm just tellin' ya how it works outside of your own little mind. I didn't say your wife was ugly or your dog is a nuisance. These are not opinions and you have to step back and look at the entire overview of what is real no matter how much that offends your choices or ego.
As for this instrument on sale here, I can tell you I have been playing guitar for money for 48 years now and I sat down to play one of these about a year ago. The Gibson Les Paul Modern was the greatest "feeling" guitar I had ever had in my hand, ever. It had a playable aesthetic to it that SHOCKED me.
Just absolute luxury.
The experience is very much akin to getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari or impregnating a blonde.
