Doesn't look like they have the strat on sale for 529 this time. I got one during the last promo, it's a great guitar. I'd wait for the deal to come up again.

You would notice an upgrade going to the Made in Mexico player line, for sure. The MIM player tele will have an alder body, alnico pickups...etc.
There is also a scale length difference between the Mustange and the Tele or strat. The mustang is 24" scale and the tele/strat is 25.5" scale. If you're an adult, there should not be too much of a change. For smaller children, the 25.5 can be a little more of a stretch.

As stated earlier, the Satin on these necks are great!

Disagree. There is likely a noticeable difference in quality of materials and construction at a minimum. Lower end Squiers often have a thinner body. None of it will automatically make you a better player but you just might be more likely to pick this one up and play than the Squier given a choice.
