I mentioned this in one of the miracle grow threads, these bags are mostly shredded/mulched wood that hasn't been fully composted yet. There was no plastic trash in any of the 10 bags I purchased. I'll try to post a picture of the quality.

Mushrooms means healthy soil tho
This is much better deal than currently $2 Miracle Gro on sale at HD. It is 1.0 cu ft and feds up to 9 months. In comparison, the on-sale Miracle Gro at HD is 0.75 cu ft and feds up to 3 months.

Can I use this to fill in some low areas in my yard and add grass seed?

I did this a few months ago and the low spot that I filled the seeds grew almost immediately. One of the healthiest spots in my yard now.

I purchased 5 bags of sta-green from Lowes & 5 bags of Miracle Gro from HD.

I used the sta-green as a topping in my flower beds and to fill a hole from a large plant I dug up. The sta-green is very mulch-like, which honestly, I was kind of happy with. The 1st 4 bags were fine, the 5th smelled horrible, just like that nasty colored mulch. It very well could just have been a different supplier, I'm going to check the coding near the upc. I had a huge issue a few years ago with a supplier for Black Kow manure, code TRM. Will NEVER buy a TRM again. TMI, I know, sorry.

Opened 1 bag of the Miracle Gro, and is more soil like. No large pieces, no sticks or garbage. Going to save these for dh to fill in the low spots in the lawn & reseeding.

Worth the 20% extra? I dont mind keeping it. How did you like it this year?
Just went and pickup the sta-green. When i open the bag...the strong smell of pine bark is very noticeable. Looking it closely, it's mostly small piece of pine bark. There are some dirt and peat moss and perlite. I wouldn't use this for any garden by itself. Their formula hasn't change since a few years when I bought it.

Can this be placed outdoor exposed to elements for 1 year or two? Am thinking to mix it to some sandy for top dressing.

I ordered, got the email that it's ready, drove over, and they said they sold it all. Never reserved my bags.

Typical Lowe's experience, they should be a banned seller here. Thumbs down on this deal.

Nearly the same thing happened to me. Ordered online and waited at curbside pick up. Someone came over and said they thought they were out but a shipment just came in. Had to swing to the back and pick them up from a fresh unopened pallet.

Folks that order online should call and double check the bags are there or at least take a look at online inventory before heading out.

Here is the issue with using this as a filler, this is a compost and overtime it will be gone. Max 1-2 years. Where as top soil is sand and ground soil which does not deteriorate. The hole you will be filling with compost will be back to hole again after a year or two.

Tell everyone you know nothing about soil without saying it.

I've used this brand before and I've never had an issue so far. I've had more luck with this brand than miracle grow. I'm on my way today to grab 30 bags

I purchased 10 bags of Miracle Gro from Home Depot before this deal came out, so I thought I'd buy a bag of Sta-Green to compare. In the following image, the top right is Miracle Gro, the bottom left is Sta-Green. Miracle Gro is much more compressed and time consuming to work with when you first take it out of the bag. There are chunks that need to be broken up. It's also slightly darker. Other than that, the consistency between the two is identical. I did find one piece of plastic in the Sta-Green bag, but that's also common with Miracle Gro now and then. I prefer the Sta-Green and will be buying it from now on.

Here they are side by side. Left is SG, right is MG. I took the other picture, because you can't see the color difference in this one that well. Both soils look identical.

I just filled my flower raised bed and topped it off with one of each side by side. The miracle-gro looked like dark top soil, not "mulchy" at all, with a couple of red plastic pieces in it I had to pluck out. The stay-green looked really good, also not mulchy, and more fluffy with perlite mixed in. I should have taken a photo but I was too eager to finish up before the expected storm rolls in. I still have plenty of each so I plan to upload a side by side photo when I work in my next garden expansion project next week or so. Neither of mine looks like yours, my 1st impression of both exceeded my expectations, especially the sta-green.
