Reconditioned tools may include items which have previously been in service, as well as discontinued items and dealer returns. All previously used tools are inspected and tested by Festool technicians, and are determined to meet Festool's high performance and quality standards. In some cases these tools and/or their containers may have minor scratches, dents or other cosmetic blemishes, however we guarantee them to be fully operational prior to leaving our facility

Warranty:
Festool offers a one year warranty for all reconditioned tools sold on festoolrecon.com. In order to obtain a one-year warranty, no tool registration is required
I bought the powertec one off of Amazon last week because I refused to pay for a festool track that costs more than what I paid for the used festool tracksaw itself.
Works flawlessly. No problem whatsoever.

I picked up a few tools last time this came around, and missed out on a few I was looking for last time. Picked up a sander this time. Will wait and see which warranty I get this time - last time almost everything came with the full warranty instead of the 1-year reconditioned coverage.
Everything I have ordered from Festoolron has always given me the 3 year warranty when adding it to my tool list in Festool's site.
At least one tool that I bought off the recon site only showed the 1 yr warranty after I registered it. In fact, first time I tried, the registration failed because it stated that the serial number was already registered to someone. I needed Festool to clear the database of the previous owner, which they did for me. Unlike the stuff I have gotten from that same site that looks new, this particular tool was obviously reconditioned. Not complaining, just giving a heads-up .... some stuff seems new, some stuff may be recon.
Does anyone know of cheaper aftermarket alternative tracks compatible with Festool?

I really like my powertec tracks as well. Got the 2x 55" set and love them.
FWIW, it's a phenomenal tool, you should just get it at full price! - Joking aside, it is a great tool but it's prohibitively expensive for most. Once you have it and aren't hurting from the cost of it anymore, it's a great tool to have in the arsenal for quickly building furniture and will probably be an 'heirloom'.

Makita is a bit better than an 'aftermarket alternative' IMO, but their tracks are compatible with Festool. The newer Milwaukee M18 track saw works on the Makita tracks, too - and I think Wen tracks follow suit - perhaps with a bit less precision. M18 tracks are apparently slightly thicker which might affect your cut depth if used interchangeably with different tracks and/or saws.
