I bought the powertec one off of Amazon last week because I refused to pay for a festool track that costs more than what I paid for the used festool tracksaw itself.

Works flawlessly. No problem whatsoever.

Festool makes some very high quality tools. They do not recondition other manufacturers tool. One of the items they are really well known about is how almost all tools are designed around dust collection. Depending on what you are doing they might be a great investment or overkill if you rarely use them.

The $349 "track saw" it just a circular saw on a track. It won't be accurate as a track saw.

I thought I knew a decent amount about tools, but I have never heard of festool. Always owned Milwaukee. So they recondition other brands and then make them their brand? They seem really expensive for recondition tools. What am I missing? Please explain this phenomenon to me!

I get that Festool is a top tier brand, but for refurb the prices are still really high..... What makes it worth compared to other top tier brands like Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Flex, etc....

John Malecki did a great video the other day comparing festool and one of the cheapest brands, Wen, and you can form your own opinion, but seems like overall they're not needed unless it's your job, you have more money than time, or you sand a ton

That was awful video but I'm a sucker for YouTube videos before bedtime. He missed doing a proper test on many of his items. I don't have any Festools or Woodpecker like this guy. But I could do a much better job at testing. He should have made two cuts with the track saw then put them together with a light underneath to check. He did do the 45 degrees with the jigsaw but didn't check the 90 degrees and 90 degrees with thick material. As for the sander I used a painter Festool and I was amazed at how comfortable it was in my hand. I worked in fine furniture and cabinet for 8 years and as a finish carpenter for 30 years so I've had day that where nothing but sanding

That circular saw has some other cool tricks. You can buy that really expensive cross cutting track for it as well as using a standard track.

They are still 100% made in Germany and they have some very innovative products. The domino for instance. The tools are very high quality and mostly professional grade and work with each other in their ecosystem. The snap on of wood working. Is the green tax worth it? Maybe for somethings like their sanders, dust extractors, and the domino.

They had them last week as individual postings on the recon site so I'm assuming they were all sold out by the time this bulk sale came along. The 500 lasted about 30 minutes cuz it was posted at like 7AM ET and the 700XL lasted all of 3 minutes (I got lucky and grabbed one and by the time I finished checking out they were sold out). There's a slack channel you can join that follows the site and will update when the site updates; just search for it on the Festool Owners Group.

Also you can check out https://www.festoolrecon.com/coll...oneanddone during the non-sale periods and you'll see a list of upcoming items. Almost all of the stuff on the current sale were things that didn't clear out the last 2-3 times.

I have the Makita track saw that came with a set of rails (39 and 55) but I needed to work with some much larger sheet goods so I'd thought about just getting another 55 from makita but it costs double the amount of the WEN set so I grabbed those to try out.

They are SUPER well made and compatible with a bunch of the Festool style track saws. The connectors aren't great though (they're the same as the Makita branded ones I think) and you'll need to juggle with them a bit to get everything completely straight. I used to set them against a straight edge before tightening and it worked pretty well and was pretty much free, but ultimately I bought a set of the TSO auto-aligners https://tsoproducts.com/jigs-fixt...onnectors/. They're much more expensive than free but all in (TSO has free shipping a few times a year) the 110 WEN + the TSO kit sets you back just a little over the cost of a single 55" Makita rail.
