Is there such a thing as truly safe-enough human/animal friendly weed killer? I would love a convenient option but I don't like the idea of applying chemicals around my home and areas my kids play that are being shown to be harmful to health.

If not, I'll just keep pulling em by hand. Thanks slickdealers

These bottles never seem to properly mix with the water when connected to my hose. Anyone know why that happens? It's like I can spray forever and the level of concentrate in the bottle never drops.

Actually I had this problem as well, even with setting the control to the right setting (mixture).

1) Use a shorter hose or an undamaged one that may be leaking in spots
2) Check your water pressure overall. (Example: My faucet had its stop washer replaced but the kit also had a backflow check 'valve' angled rubber washer that significantly constricted the water flow out ward, once that was removed the pressure returned to normal as the original version of the faucet did not use one but came in the replacement kit for some reason)

The newer tops seem to be more sensitive to lower water pressure and fail to then have enough force to cause the suction action lifting the chemical into the flow, since it works on a tangential suction design instead of a flow-through design.

There are separate larger containers you can get at home stores, made by Ortho or others that allow you to control the flow rate and use a much thicker hose to bring up the chemicals. A one time $10 purchase can let you reuse that (and the 40 oz refill bottles) for years instead of dealing with the cheap included ones on the 32 oz ready-to-use ones. And also control the rate, which is good for using other chemicals like bug killers and similar.

Edit: Seems prices skyrocketed since last year when I paid $7 or $8. I see they are $15+ for the Ortho sprayer now. But still worth it IMO.

I walked by the display of them with it marked down to 6 dollars. I was shocked and picked it up. Now I see it on here. So must not be just my store

I believe the Spectracide version only has Off and On positions. The Bayer has a water setting, I believe.

the 40z refill for this one is 6$ near me

Buy this version and you can purchase the refill and pour it right into this sprayer. It's what I've been doing as you get an extra 8oz.

I have used this product for several years and have had absolutely no problems. No issues ever with burning grass or anything similar. It does a great job of killing the weeds only.
thanks

Do these products expire? I'm not sure how much I need for a crabgrass-infested area in my lawn, but I'm thinking I can save the extra bottles for later seasons.

Glad to see some places letting dandelions and clovers grow. weeds are beneficial. screw your mono-cultured flat boring grass and HOAs.

Yeah. I just mow and water the lawn. I've got more weeds around which brings in more bees, birds, and rabbits.

Called Spectracide customer service to see if this stuff was cheap because it's beyond it's sell date. On the rear of bottle, below the label is a production date code. Mine was in March of 2024. Also, supposedly, this chemical does not expire...ever, even if you use it.

It sounds like your reasoning is: We all die of something, therefore, there's no reason to take precautions to protect the health and safety of ourselves, our families, and community. That seems fallacious to me. Moreover, your underlying assumption that what you consider a "nice looking yard" takes minimal effort is incorrect. These methods are not only dangerous, they are specifically more labor intensive than better alternatives like planting local native ground cover

I picked up a couple of these 3 weeks ago at $9.97. It worked really well for my yard. After about a week of letting it sit I went through and thatched the lawn and that helped pull up all the now dead weeds. Worked well for me.

Is it ok to drink water from the hose after using something like this? I have never used one that attaches on the hose, I usually use the grain that's spread with spreader.

Crazy that they sell this in South Florida. Guaranteed lawn killer for St Augustine Floratam variety. I learn the hard way then opened a claim and they paid for re-sod.
