4070 is such a marginal gain in performance from a 4060 is my only gripe, and many sub $1000 4060 laptops seem to pop up.

Nope. Also only 1 m.2 slot so if you want to upgrade the ssd you need to swap it and reinstall windows

What makes this deal actually good is the portability and mainly the screen, the gains of the 4070 are more like a bonus than anything.

I bought this laptop last time it was on sale for $1300. I love the size and the screen. I was recently on a flight with it and it travels great. It can be a bit power thirsty, but it does slow charge off a 100w+ usbc charger which is convenient. The case is really solid, It can easily be held with one hand and doesn't feel like it is flexing when grabbed by the corner. The venting is exceptional, there are vents everywhere except the front. I knew the hardware lacked expandability and figure the 16gb ddr5 would be sufficient. I also threw in a 1tb micro sd card to bump up the storage. Its been a very stable and reliable little powerhouse and that's what I wanted when I bought it.

How about the power supply size? I read somewhere that it is obscenely large, is that true?

Yeah its hefty, it puts out something like 230w and weighs almost half as much as much as the laptop. That is why I prefer to use a 100w usbc brick to charge it when I am on the move. The power brick does charge very fast though.
