Ah, you're right. I just looked up the model and it does have m.2 2242. The only bad thing about it then is that the 8GB of RAM is soldered and RAM goes out pretty often too
Not in my experience. RAM is nearly always replaced to make way for upgraded sticks.

Can you install linux or windows on it?
Looks like you can according to Mrchromebox.tech . But getting audio to work in both Linux or windows installed on a chromebook is a pain. I found Manjaro works the best, it's what I install on my chromebooks. If you want audio to work in windows someone made a driver but you have to pay for it.

Ram is one of the more robust things in any laptop imo and can last 10-20 years of typical use.

Stay away from laptops like this that have an EMMC drive. It is soldered onto the motherboard and cannot be upgraded or replaced if it goes bad —as all drives do

Edit: It actually has an extra M.2 2242 slot for storage besides the eMMC. The RAM is also soldered on though
It's not extra and requires Suzy q cable and nvme compatibility not assured.

Its a good web machine if you don't need to upgrade it.

Just running browser I've never seen it strain, but I don't play games or anything else with it.

What do you use it for?
Web, work (word processing etc), and video watching. Excellent screen and sound compared to the other Chromebook Plus´ I had before (Acer and Lenovo) at less than half the price. Keyboard having numbers pad took some adjustment. Mine has backlit keyboard. Early version did not apparantly. Battery life is really good compared to the other Chromebook pluses I had as well.

I bought one and tried last year, it was a hassle and things didn't work well. Wound up returning it for the same model ideapad for a little more money with a real SSD.

This about squares with my experience. Ran a ThinkPad T420 and had an 8GB module fail after about ten years causing frequent BSODs, fault was confirmed using memtest86.

It would suck to have a laptop bricked by a memory failure, but given that the typical service life of most chromebooks is under ten years it's probably an acceptable risk.
