We just got back from this exact same trip, same carrier, same airports. It was a nightmare. I will never fly with them again.

On top of cancelling our return flight and rebooking us out 1 day (a change which cost us $1k in hotel/food/lost work) Iberia/Level changed our seats 4x before we left and each time tried to charge us for the "selection" of the new seat. Each round prompted calls to their 800 number for fear of us losing our seat selections (we have a 4 year old and needed to be sure we could sit next to her).

Along the way the priority boarding that we tacked on when we originally booked and our meal purchase was lost and no-one was ever able to fix our reservations and then boarding pass.

The seats were brutally uncomfortable but I'm 6' and 275lbs and the flight out had no in flight entertainment or wifi.

We took this route a year or so ago... Level was fine. They do charge for food on many of their fares, so plan ahead. Check-in at JFK is fine. There is a separate area for Level, but if Iberia isn't busy, they do re-route some of the passengers to that line. Check-in in Barcelona was quick.

We happened to book it using Avios through Iberia and those fares included check bags and food. You can order your food ahead through the app or website and it was actually reasonably decent.

Barcelona is a great city, but can be overrun with tourists during prime tourist season. We had a few well spent days there and then headed out to a number of smaller towns. Spain in general tends to be cheaper than much of the rest of western Europe. Great trip overall.

according to the website: "All our fares include one carry-on item and one personal item that must fit under the seat in front of you." It is far more than enough, better than Spirit and Frontier. I would say one carry-on item and one personal item is good for a 7-day trip.

I've flown with them to BCN departing from BOS on aging A330 which leased from Iberia.

Food and drink are not included and they must be purchased. It is expensive for example 2 croissants and 2 drinks (coffee, juice and water) for $23.
No wifi, AC outlet or any in flight entertainment (IFE).

If your flight is canceled or you are changing the flight ticket, best of luck on getting to customer service and getting the refund. No one answers the calls or replies to your emails.

How much food are you ordering during the middle of the night? Plane leaves after 11pm and gets to Barcelona at 7am Barcelona time. It's an older plane but was redone on the inside. My trip was one of the easiest European flights I have flown.

My wife got her phone stolen with all of our photos during our trip to Barcelona 3 years ago. She was devastated and in tears and it completely ruined our trip and experience.

I literally kept my phone and wallet in my front pockets and kept my hand in my pockets the entire time with a fanny pack in my front.

We're also a vigilant couple as we are from New York City. These people are pros with the highest slight of hand skill.

yep. i never have checked bags. in terms of clothing, what you "think" you need, you'll only use half of it. just wear your heavy coat on the plane and use it as a blanket.
What about traveling for a wedding or funeral?

Heads up on Level: We flew return March 30 - April 4 to BCN. We got to BCN airport to return home and they had cancelled the flight and claimed they moved us to the April 2 flight (literally the day after we landed). They did not refund us or get us on another flight home.

Moral of the story:
Watch the (many many) emails they send like a hawk, and pay very close attention to the dates in them. We went back and found the notification that had the exact same time but date moved.
The European union rules for these changes and cancelations is very clear and you can get compensation based on the flight distance fairly easily by submitting your claim online. It takes a couple of months but it's the law so recommend doing it
