Here's a trick I learned. When you are screwing it back together, rotate backwards first slowly. Once you feel the screw 'drop', then you know you are aligned back in the original threads. Then screw it back in. Works everytime without any extra damage to the threads,

Gamestop has it cheaper, same price, minus $25 for purchasing online and selecting in store pickup

Any online purchase over $250 gets $25 off at checkout when selecting in store pickup

If you have a monthly coupon that's another $5

I've purchased 6 and resold them with a 1tb retrocard
The problem with Gamestop is that finding a 64GB in a wild is... nearly impossible (at least in my region - I hadn't seen it for a single time)
It doesn't have the same type of warranty
it is not refurbished by Valve

the real problem is that on gamestop, none are available for local pickup or same day, and none are available for shipping either. whereas, the valve refurbed are. However I'm thinking just buy the 512 mb oled deck. I like my switch oled so much, I'm thinking it'll just be worth it for that screen and batt life.

I'm astonished at just how much of an upgrade the OLED was for me. My old SD gathered dust so I sold it for cheap.

The OLED is a miraculous product. It's become my primary Helldivers 2 machine - I don't play on anything else.

In retrospect I wish I'd done that instead of bought the 512 GB on pre-order.

Same. I bought a 256 and then quickly realized I should've just saved the difference.

I got a refurb at gamestore a few months ago. 64 gb model. It ended up being 260 after pro discount or whatever. I ended up buying a 1tb SD card for like 25$ on sale and I've been really happy. I know the OLED model is the one to get but if you just wanna get your toes wet, picking up one of these cheap refurbs is great

now that the oled version is finally uses non-self tapping screws.. it's worth waiting for that. self tapping screws are so trash for longevity.. esp if you plan to open it
True, and for anyone upgrading this model, always make sure to back off the screw a little when you screw it back in and let it fall back into the threads. A lot of guides don't mention this. Also make sure you remove the microSD card.

I agree. Bought the 64GB when it was first discounted on Steam. Upgraded the storage to 2TB and the screen to a Deck HD screen (along with a new shell because might as well).

If I had to do it again now, I would just buy an OLED model for the better battery life and WiFi.

Storage expansion with microSD cards is very inexpensive and performance hit loading games has been shown to be essentially negligible. Hardware is identical across all LCD display models apart from storage. NVMe upgrade is also an option later on and relatively easy if you have any experience with performing PC hardware upgrades.

Only true if you plan to open it a thousand times or if you are terrible with a screwdriver and proper torque...

Agreed. At msrp I would have gotten the cheapest one. Live and learn. At these prices though I'd recommend the splurge.

At these prices I'd get the high end model. That anti glare screen is very nice.
You can just add a anti glare screen protector to the cheaper models as well.
