Here's a trick I learned. When you are screwing it back together, rotate backwards first slowly. Once you feel the screw 'drop', then you know you are aligned back in the original threads. Then screw it back in. Works everytime without any extra damage to the threads,

It's easy to upgrade. I have mine since launch. U can add an anti glare screen protector for $10 and I bought an internal 2tb drive and 1 tb sd card. Incredible device.

As mentioned, cheap. But adding an SSD is easy if you are even slightly skilled at disassembly and (if you get a good microSD) the SD card slot runs about the same as the SSDs they use.

I got the first gen 64GB and slapped in a Sandisk Extreme and have never had a problem.

I'm astonished at just how much of an upgrade the OLED was for me. My old SD gathered dust so I sold it for cheap.

The OLED is a miraculous product. It's become my primary Helldivers 2 machine - I don't play on anything else.
When I play Helldivers 2 I mainly play docked to a TV (occasionally handheld), did you notice any bump in performance for the game?

Beware many anticheats will not work properly and you get booted. Doesn't like the windows emulation. Really soured my steamdeck usecase, disappointing

Screen is just acceptable. Relativelyr low resolution 60hz refresh and noticeably inaccurate colors.

I would have gotten a competitor for a bit more.

I do love Valve.
You can just dual boot Windows for those games.

All of these handhelds run x86 processors and none are locked to one particular OS, which makes the comment above yours rather strange.

Got one of these refurbished units a while ago. The machine couldn't finish the initial setup -- the screen would just suddenly freeze or go blank and stop responding. Spent a few hours troubleshooting (flashing, resetting etc) and was on the emails with Valve support for a few days (they respond in 12hours or longer) and nothing worked. Ended up returning the unit. Could be an isolated case, but take "Each Certified Refurbished Steam Deck has been thoroughly tested to the same high standards as our retail units" with a grain of salt.

I wouldn't say it's easy for first timers. It can be easily damaged esp on the lcd units bc disassembly was hard. I figured it out and doing it safely but not without spending half a day watching video and writing a long commentary on the exact positions of those J-hooks holding the two halves together. The software for SSD also threw me off the way Valve zipped it up and I didn't figure out that file format until later. It had a filename that I thought worked as is but required to be uncompressed.

How is the windows experience? Looking to make a general PC desktop experience with general media use + some gaming as a second steam deck in dock mode. I love the small size but wanted to know if it's a good "steam machine."

Can Windows 11 SD run all Steam games? Non-SD verified games? Sometimes I want to play non-SD verified games so trying to figure that out.

He reviews the Win 11 experience.

Why wasn't this available months ago when I got the G Cloud!?! (The sticks SUCK and make it totally useless for FPS games)
Maybe OLED refurbs aren't too far off🤞
