If you're looking for the original line nespresso machines, then get the last one. Essenza mini at $95. It's great for a simple coffee maker and you can buy the cheaper original line capsules

I feel folks see the pods and miss the point.

This is a machine that makes a good cup of coffee with zero effort on your part. That means no learning about coffee, no grinding machines, and no extraction testing to get a good cup. Youre paying $1 a pod for Nespresso to do the work for you.

The coffee is noticeably better than any pod or generic bulk coffee. Nespresso has the best grinding technology in the industry. It's a consistent brew because the grinds are consistently sized. There is no prepackaged equivalent.

If you plan to go through the work to make better coffee than this, this isn't the deal for you. But if you like coffee, can survive on a single cup, and do occasionally go to Starbucks or an analog this might be worth your time.

Just an FYI this model is prone to high failure rate. I owned one and it started leaking about a year in... just like most people said it would. I purchased a Vertu plus and have had zero issues in two years.

EDIT: I am talking about the Vertu Next.

Just snagged the plus deluxe! The stand alone frother is nearly this much. Slick deal.

Any reason to pick the older machines like Essenza? Seems like Nestle is all-in on the new designs, so any worries about the old capsules being discontinued?

These pods are quite expensive and barely go on much of a sale.
Expect ~$1/pod
I don't think any generics exist yet.

Generics exist but the original line has way more because the vertuo still has an active patent. i usually recommend original line machines for espressos more.

Thanks for the detail, just picked up the Essenza. I was in Italy last month and couldn't believe how popular Nespressos have become, even in the land of coffee "snobs." Tasty, and so many good generics available. I've still never seen a Nespresso in a private US home, but I like them a lot better than Keurig machines, which are everywhere.

It's also great that here in Italy the coffee pods are half the cost compared to US.

The older machine is an espresso machine that uses Nespresso's pods. You can get the pods from all kinds of companies.

The newer machine is basically a coffee machine where the first question was "how do we make sure it is illegal to make third party pods" it involves a barcode system and all kinds of insanity. It actually makes interesting coffee but you can only buy the pods from Nespresso themselves.

Did you have the breville or delonghi?
