No, they didn't. They had an existing 18v line of NiCd tools/batteries with a different stick form factor instead of a slide. When they switched to lithium they wanted to make it clear it was a different system that was incompatible with the old system, and also that the performance of the new chemistry was way better. So they went to "20v max" branding (20v being the nominal voltage of the packs at max charge, 18v being their actual operating voltage).

Dewalt pulled a fast one on the market when advertising 20V over the correct 18V terminology. Sucker born every day!

I currently have a 5ah XR and am looking for a couple more 5 or 6ah to run the small vacuum and sawzall. Should I jump on this? Or wait for the regular Li-ion?
these are probably not going to improve the performance of your tools I would wait for a deal on the regular 5ah packs or buy them on marketplace new openbox from someone breaking up combos. Should be around 10/ah or $50

Agree with this. I had the old 18v with the old form factor. Yes, they did change to 20v, and it may be considered a bit of marketing, but I think it's really about avoiding confusion. Smart move in my opinion.

Project Farm does comparison testing of the DeWALT Powerstack (2AH), DeWALT 2.0 AH (18650), and DeWALT 5.0 AH (18650) that may have relevant information for potential buyers.

All "powerstack" batteries are flat pouch batteries, so yes.

Which one is the one u can use with dyson
these dont work with a dyson v8, it doesnt like them. I still have to use my standard XR batteries and 4ah or bigger works best.

They're actually heavier than the equivalent 18650 5ah XR battery, but shorter in height (similar I believe to the 3ah and 4ah 21700 based batteries)
