Here in lower Hudson valley,NY, I put this down heavy a few weeks ago and lawn is already thick and green. After years of trial and error I found this needs to be applied 3 times to make it through the season without crabgrass despite what the label says. I put in down end of March, mid May and again early July. The trick with crabgrass is you can't let it germinate. Once it does just forget about it and start again next year. Again, lots of trial and error over many years.

Quack grass makes it though the winter, where as crab grass dies and starts from seed in the spring. Crab grass preventer stops the seeds from germinating if applied before germination

Hmm just read the label, and they don't specifically mention it. Maybe not.

Do lawn products like these tend to ever expire, or can I use the leftovers in future years?

Thanks for the post. Was about to buy Preen+crabgrass but this seems like a good alternative.
