Source: designed big bank identity theft / fraud detection system and used enterprise tools and peeked under the hood of the biggest data. Also had feeds in from Russian hacking groups on my industry in particular and got reports on big markets for identity and credit card data.
To buy a complete identity with SSN and credit card number is like a buck. Way less if you're buying tens of thousands of records at a time.
So I'm pretty at ease when I get emails about leaks or somebody requests my info.
BUT they screw up everything.
You will pay for this deal with your time.
The last time I upgraded phones I was on with them for months trying to fix my bill. I just did it again four years later and yes., they appeared to have screwed this up. They just say oh well your loss and that's it.
Switch away and let them go under
I had plenty of reasons to hate them when I had a landline, DSL, and their cell service at various times. But after staying away for quite a while, I got gig fiber a year and a half ago because I came to hate Spectrum even more, and it has been fantastic. No down time except for a a few weeks ago when the fiber cable got pulled down at the pole by an over-height truck. Even that only resulted in a few hours of downtime because a competent tech came right out and replaced the line in no time. No issue getting the promo gift cards either, which I was very skeptical about. I have no interest in using them for anything else but the gig fiber Internet has been great.
